We have a 2008 f350 6.4 automatic trans 101,000 miles. the problem is under load pulling our fifth wheel up hill when the trans down shifts the engine starts missing, when we top the hill and drops back into overdrive it clears up and runs fine. The problem seems to be worse when the engine is warm/hot.
does almost sound like a limp mode situation but the miss is different. What about your clutch fan? does it engage when this happens? Hear an airplane under the hood?
Do you get any puking rom the degas bottle? Losing any coolant? When I had bad head gaskets, it would run fine until under a good load, then it would miss. Just thought.....
What part of the country are you in? Is it hot and or humid? Do you notice any white smoke at the tail pipe while it's missing? These would be signs of a common problem with these trucks. Moisture builds up in the CAC (charge air cooler) while driving, when the truck downshifgts and the engine loads up it sucks the water out of the cac and into the cylinders and kind of puts the fire out for a little while, causing a miss. Once the water has been used up the problem will not reoccur until some time has passed and more moisture has built up. Most folks have had the CAC replaced, your dealer should be able to look at the oasis report and see if it has been changed on this truck. There would be no codes and no wrench. If you suspect this might be whats going on you can check it yourself. Drive for a while and get everything heated up. The CAC is the very front radiator looking item on the front orf the truck. Remove the lower hose, right at the drivers side bottom. If there is water in it that may well be your problem.
