Engine Shakes,lacks power
I replaced the fuel pressure regulator about three weeks ago and the engine ran fine. I had the garage put a muffler and tail pipe on to pass inspection. When we picked it up, the engine shimmied at idle and any speed and the fuel pump whines.
My wife(its actually her Bronco)said it had no power. The mechanic said he did nothing other than replace the muffler and look for loose wires(that would cause the antilock light to come on)and he pretty much washed his hands of it. So here is what I have done thus far to no avail:
new plugs,wires,cap, and rotor
checked the timing
cleaned the EGR valve
pulled the codes(I have yet to research them)
Pulled the muffler to get some power back (shhhh dont tell)
Could the new regulator and an old fuel pump be the problem?
Thanks,
I would have told him to kiss my a#$ and fix it or I would of kicked his a%@ all over town. But anyway it sounds like a dead cylinder, or a couple, to me. I would start by checking compression, and spark to every spark plug from the distributor to the plugs. To make sure there isent an open in the plug wires. I would pressure the mechanic to fix it.Good luck
Or maybe he left a rag in the mufler
I would crawl under it and see what damage he can do puting a muffler and whatnot on. did he weld. Did he damage the feul pump?
did he take it on an extended road test?
I would have kicked his @$$ too!
I have lurked in this forum many times and had my problems solved. This is the first time I posted. I really appreciate the info.
I will post if I discover anything further.
Thanks again,
The Groovy One
