Well, my FICM unit voltage was jumping all over the map from 21v to 48v. It would usually start out low, in the 20's, when cold and gradually increase to the upper 30's to lower 40's when oil was up to full temp. The truck always started easy and idled good but would blow white smoke and had low power until coolant temp got up to the 150 range.
The old unit I removed definately had a broken piece inside as I could hear it rattling around. Everything I read said that I would need an 8mm socket for the rear bolts and a 10mm for the front. (early 03) Actually, mine needed a 10mm for the rear and a 13mm for the front. And they were tight bitches. I had to use a 12" breaker bar to loosen all four bolts. Is that normal?
Anyway, all's good, no more white smoke and power is good.
