7.3 won't run

I have a '97 F-250 with a 7.3 diesel. Starts and runs a couple of minutes, then quits and will not restart for a while. Code its giving is P0470. Any thoughts on what's wrong? Thanks!

When it stalls, does it shut all at once, or does it slowly shut off?

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

How about an oil change. When was the last one?

Does it run smooth when it does run, or does it act like it's missing?

How many miles are on the truck?

Original injectors?

What about the IPR? Has it been changed?

Do you have any leaks in the valley of the engine?

Has the cam sensor been changed?

Just trying to get some more information.

Cranks just fine and runs perfect. Then shuts off like you turned the key off. When I try to restart, it may hit but will not start and run. Let it sit for couple hours and does same thing again.

Oil and fuel filters changed 3 to 4 months ago. Truck has about 150,000 miles. INjectors are original. Has a chip that is set on safe tow option. No sensors have been changed.

Cam sensor should be changed as a first try, they are very common to go out on these trucks and give strange different symptoms sometimes. Get one from ford or IH, not a parts store one. They are only like 25 bucks. I'd try that first as you need to have a spare anyway, all of us on here have at least one in the glove box. There was a recall for the cam sensor a while back (couple years ago) if you didn't get it done, you can get it done for free at ford more than likely.

Only other thought is ipr orings, but I'd start with the cam sensor.

By the way, welcome to fte!
