Deer proofing plants.

I had someone tell me about this, put your coffee grounds around plants the Deer are Munching on. It takes a couple of weeks for the coffee taste to get into the plant. Works on my Azaelas, Rotadendrums,Strawberry plants!! and others. This is the first year I've had Hostas, bloom. I poured my cooled left over coffee around them. You have to use Deer Away till the coffee gets into the plant.

first off you need one of two thongs. a sturdy roof or a nice sized tree. next a lawn chair or tree stand. upon dusk proceed to selected ppace with a 6 pack of beer, red lensed spotlight, and a compound bow. pre open beer. give spotlight to child. drink. than make the deer drop when it moves in ah shoot... this isnt the most lawful method... sry

Good luck, I've got goats sheep and I used to have pet deer. If they like it they will come and eat it.. you have to make it deer resistant some how.
I'm not sure about coffee, I do know that they can eat chocolate covered coffee beans, that mixed with Coca cola wasn't a good experience, she attacked dogs, people and other deer and was still hyper two hours later when we got home. A hyper deer in a T Bird was not good. My wife still hasn't fogiven me. By the way I do not advise deer as pets although I like them better than dogs.
Dogs are one of the best deterants to deer as long as they don't like the deer.

I shoot a deer in my garden. I can shoot them for ruining my crops. The warden told me to do it. I use my crossbow now. It doesn't disturb my neighbors.

My mom has killed several deer in her garden. She shot the first one with a 22. My dad & I laughed about her being under gunned before she fired. That deer dropped in its tracks. Don't mess with Moms garden.

I am pretty much a city boy, raised in LA, not many deer in LA, but there are a few...

Some ideas I have heard about from some people who did have deer problems...

Nicotine can repel deer. You can make a "tea" from left over cigarettes etc and spray it around the plants. It is a natural plant product so it won't hurt things.

Haven't heard that coffee grounds work but do know they are excellent fertillizer, my god mother swore by this for decades. She never had any deer but then she lived near downtown LA ;^)

The crossbow works if it is legal, and you get some sweet tasting revenge.

I have read that running fishing line around things at about knee height bothers deer and they will avoid that area. They don't see the line and when it touches their legs it gives them the heebiejeebies. You will need some stakes to place around things and line is cheap and easy to find.

Some animals don't like the smell of rotten eggs. There are some repellants you can make by mixing eggs and water and spraying it around. You won't smell it but the deer and other plant eaters will think something is dead in the area and will avoid it. Do a google for egg repellent. You will get pages like this one...
Deer Repellent Recipes For Homemade Deer Repellent

Several universities have tested it and they say it works.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson
