Excellent video John - I actually hate the sound of a locked clutch fan. One of these days, I hope to swap in an electric. I did it on my 78 vette and it really changed the personality of the motor - not to mention, the electric fan keeps it INSANELY cool. I did upgrade to a heavy duty aluminum radiator at the same time, though.
I don't like the sound of a locked in fan clutch my self, sounds mean, but it cuts off alot of the ROAR of the engine.
Funny my '89 F150 with a stock 1 row Rad, original fan clutch (truck only does have 65k miles tho) never gets hot in traffic or anything.
The dash gauge always reads around or below the N of NORMAL.
And it doesn't have A/C, all 6cyl's had no fan shroud on non A/C models. Just a top piece of plastic.
It was really irritating when the 78 was stock and all you could hear was the roar of the fan clutch. The fact that the fan spins identically to engine speed make it worse, IMO.
I think my 460 is a 2 or 3 row, never had an issue with overheating. (neither has the 78, I just love the way removing the fan and shroud cleans up an engine bay)
