How much por15 for frame

Does anyone know if a quart of por15 will coat a 1966 f250 frame twice?

I have everything I need but only one quart of the por15 and don't want to get started and end up with not enough.

Thanks.

I called them about coverage and I need to order 4 quarts. They told me that 4 quarts will do my frame, underside of cab, radiator support, inside inner and outer fenders, inside my box, and inside the box body itself.

Thats seems like alot of coverage for 4 quarts, but I plan on spraying mine so I should get a little more uniform coverage and use less POR15 overall.

I would say in your case a quart should cover the frame pretty easily. However, I would give them a call to be sure.

I would get 2 cuz I know that I was able to coat my frame once only. And mine is a f100 short wide bed.

No it wont. 1 quart will probally go for only one coat depending how thick you spray it. Good luck!

Used an auto spray gun, the kind ya find at HF, found it goes lot further. As noted by other members qt is probly good for 1 coat, strongly suggest to include in the purchase por 15 solvent, bout the only thing I found that will take the paint off the skin, also good for cleaning, and diluting the mixture. I purchased couple qt's and did the inner fenders. If intend having the truck painted may want to check w/ paint shop to make sure the por 15 won't present an issue when decide on type paint, found some paint shops will strip por, or simular products off before painting.

THanks guys. I went ahead and ordered and extra quart just to be safe. I got the frame completely stripped this weekend (Man that always takes longer than one thinks) and will hopefully get it cleaned up this week sometime.

When I've used POR15, the first coat goes on easy & self levels out for a nice smooth finish even just using a brush. The second coat, not so smothe, brush marks all over.

So, do you think one coat is enough to provide adquate coverage?

I added some pics of cleaning the frame and stripped frame. Check them out in my album.

I used one of them tiny pint sized test kits and applied 3 coats on the front axle alone and it barely dropped the level in the tiny can. I brushed it on thick too. A Friend of mine did a frame with one of those cans. I would get the trial/test kit and see how far you get.

Are you planing to top coat it or leave it? POR is not UV stable and will turn flat and chalk after a year. Even reflected light will kill it.

I had not planned to top coat it as most/if not all of the frame is covered and not exposed to direct UV light.

I realize it doesn't make me right or the info I read correct, but I've read up on por15 till I'm blue in the face and everything I see states reflective UV has no ill effects on it. Even a rep from POR15 emailed me and stated this.

As I have no real world experience with it, I am no expert and don't claim to be.

Have you seen reflective UV light damage por15?

POR Claims it does get damaged from UV rays or sunlight, But they also state it is a product designed for chassi s restoration and protection. I have not noticed a bit of fade or discoloration on my front Axle. If you were to use it to fill in body panel seams and other items that wya, you definitely need a UV protectant on top.
