But if you do it from reverse you wont hit my code because it will be backwards.
Ex 12345 will be 54321. Even if you do it one line at a time bottom up you will need to repeat the last 4 from the above line or you will miss the first 4 digits in the sequence. So it would be much more efficient overall to go top to bottom (assuming one has no idea where there code is in the sequence).
You misunderstood what I meant. I was saying if you took this sequence:

Someone smarter than myself broke the string into groups to make it easy to find 35 digits. Remember, if you key in 20 digits, the last 5 open the door, so when you hit number 35, go back 4 or 5 numbers when you continue.
Oh, one last part...the first number that works MAY be the prior owners code. If you keep going you will probably hit a second code that works (how mine ended up playing out). I tried resetting the first code and it ended up being the personal code. I would keep going after the first code if your truck is a 2000 or 2001 and resetting the first code you find doesn't work -it means you are not using the "master" code for your truck. If you have a 2002 or newer, it's a 50/50 chance you hit the master code first and can erase the personal code without even knowing the code you are erasing. Clear as mud?
....and started at the end with, 9999, then 79979, then 99979, then 97977, and punched them into the pad in groups, like they are broken into above, it would work. So I was saying start from the end, and go in the groups of 5 numbers, not literally each individual numbers backwards.
I played with mine last night, although I already have the master code, and my own programmed in, I thought I'd just continue to hit numbers till I exceeded 35, no lock out present, I could just keep on entering till I was blue in the face, it was mentioned posts back that the keypad lock out after so many tries might have been introduced on the 2001 or 2002, I/m thinking it's the 2002 and beyond, when they moved away from the GEM piggy backed to the dash fuse-box. My GEM is mounted to the interior fuse box.
Just bought my 2001 excursion and didnt have the factory code. Tried the string of numbers and got the factory code pretty quick. Thanks for the great advice.
My 2000 Ex came with nothing. I printed out the 5-digit-grouped numbers, grabbed a clipboard and pencil, and headed out to the truck. I was one of the unlucky ones, in that my number was in the back-half of the list. Between that and throwing ball for my dog every 4 codes, it took me a while, maybe an hour? I'm not heart-broken though. It's a beautiful day, and I don't have anywhere to be (thank you COVID).
Thank you very much for this info... I dont always like my doors auto locking. So I entered my code pressed and held 7/8 and pushed and released 3/4, released 7/8 and my horn honked once. Worked perfectly. Thank you!
If you have a good relationship with a good independent mechanic most of the new high end scan tools (from outfits like Mac and Snap-On) can read the door code. Much easier than trying to do the giant string of numbers thing. Any time you're in the shop they'll probably be plugged in anyway. My guy offered to give me the code without my asking. No charge...
WORKED, took me hours though, my code was well into the second page of the string
I knew the 2nd code, so insted of wating a minute to let the keypad clear i was able to keep moving along by entering 5 cades then the second good code then moving on to the next set of codes, no need to use a key on cycle to reset the key pad(that did not work anyway) the downside is if you are using a user code to reset the keypad you have togo back one set of 5 digits each time or you could miss one.
I have the paid version, but I don't see any PID reading to provide the code in the PATS or other modules. How is this performed?
I would have to connect to ForScan to see, I know my subscription is expired, I may have to change the date on windows to an older date and see if that works.

I also have a 2001 Excursion and can read the door code in FORScan. It is located in the 'Service Procedures' Tab (wrench icon) and is a GEM function called 'Read Factory Keyless Entry Code'. I do that and it spits out the full code for that vehicle.
However, my problem is the 2004 Excursion that I recently acquired does not have the Generic Electronic Module (GEM), like all 2002-2005 era Excursions. Surely someone has figured out an easier way using FORScan to find this code for 2002-2005 Excursions rather than punching in a bunch of numbers.
I just broke down and used the video in Post #69 to find the label. That video is for a 2005, but I can confirm that it is the same for a 2004 model year as well. I had tried this before, but my old eyes wouldn't let me see that close and the contortions made be angry, so I quit. This time I borrowed my wife's readers, put them over my bi-focal glasses, and tried again. It definatley takes some body contortion to get your head down there, a good flashlight, a small stick to prop up the insulation, an inspection mirror and the ability to read numbers backwards.
I still suspect that there is a FORScan method to read this.
