trans lockup control?

My friend has given me a 302 with a running trans (Overdrive??) its from an 80s van ,350 econoline. I was just looking at all the wires and hoses to see what is removable and noticed 4 wires that run out of the trans but they were cut. Im guessing they controll the lockup? The engine is going into my friends chevette, after we put in a cam, port the heads and bolt on an intake and 650dp (zzzzzzz ), so im not going to have anything to hook the wires from the trans to. My question is do i have to hook up the lockup in order for the trans to work (minus lockup). What do the wires normaly hook up and how hard would it be to hook it up for lockup again? Thanks

Eric

if 4 wires is all that it has, it is an AOD and they dont have an electronic lock up. Its all mechanical. The wires are for the start circuit and back up lamps.

Yes the start circuit runs through the neutral switch in park and neutral, usually on a red/blue wire.
