i have a 95 f350 powerstroke, my temp guauge quit working, never moves. I have never had a overheating problem or anything, just like to know what the deal is, im going to either buy the part to fix it once i figure out what to look for, or just go ahead and get gauges and use the egt to monitor my temps, mainly all depending on cost if anyone has any ideas im all ears, thanx alot
so joe, u think best bet would be to go ahead and break down and get some aftermarket gauges like a pillar set with an egt pod or something of that nature?? oldbird im not familiar with a scan gauge...
The scan gauge I have is Aeroforce, it will monitor a lot of things by plugging into the computer plug in the cab. Its wasn't cheap but it will read and reset codes, buzz test, continuity test, ICP pressures, DC%, trans and oil temp, etc.
The temp sender is sort of top center of the water pump. Might try messing with that connection, maybe a bad one or time for a new sender. Mine is erratic, I think the sender is dying.
Disconnect the wire at the sender. Ground the wire and the gauge should move towards HOT. If this happens then the problem is more that not the sender unit. If it doesn't move then the gauge is bad,. Make sure that the power lead to the gauge is connected and supplying 12 VDC. (Ign. ON)
How do i ground the sensor? I understand that I connect a wire to the truck itself. But do I just stick a wire into the slot? And does it matter what type of wire I use
Rog is not saying ground the sensor, that is already grounded threw the threads to the engine. Remove the wire on the top of the sensor, and touch the wire tightly to the engine. With the key in the run position, the gauge should move to the hot side on the gauge. If the gauge moves to the hot side, this points to a bad sending sensor. If the gauge doesen't move it points to a bad wire to the gauge, or the gauge itself.
Ok. Thanks boss. Just trying to get this thing working. I was thinking that wire had to be connected in order for the gauge to get a ready that wire had to be connected. But if that's how it's done I'll try it I haven't been doing big maintenence for long on this thing so. I'm still learning. I appriciate the help. Have u seen any posts for where to get a new gauge if this doesn't work?
FWIW, I had a similar problem a while back. Turned out that the wire connector was not fully seated on the sensor. A little push with my finger and all was well. May not be your problem, but sometimes the simplest things can escape us!
