I did it.

Well I purchased an 03 CC Lariat with 160k on it. The only thing the dealer found was that the gearboxes and tranny need serviced and a P006A code ( I think ) its a MAP and MAF cooraltion problem. The truck has a 6" lift with 325 tires on it. Also as far as mods it has a 4" turbo back exhaust with no cat and an AFE cold air intake. Could the code be throwing because of the intake? I also have some white smoke and low power issues at start up but from what I have read it seems to be stiction and I will be getting some revx oil. Also I ran 5w40 synthetic Rotella in my 7.3 is this a good choice on these engines as well. What about the Lucas oil additive? Thanks for the answers I really like this truck not crazy about the lift but it runs really nice.

Proceed with caution. Could be a bad ficm or oil cooler/egr cooler taking a dump.

I guess I should be alil more specific. Whenever I start up the first thing this morning it was sluggish but and was like it was hanging up. As soon as I got to operating temp it runs like a champ. I had the another dealer do a used car inspection on it and the only thing that came up was the services and the correlation code. Also the smoke only occurs around 2k rpm

Like hanging up how? Starter wouldn't turn the motor over hanging up?

No like take off driving down the road hit about 2k rpm and like its hesitating to find a gear. Every 6.0 that I have driven did this when cold. (Although the more I have read on theses engines I believe the maintance or lack thereof was more the culprit) Part of me also thinks some of this could be attributed to the fact it needs the tranny serviced. It fires right off no white or blue smoke at first start up only the first mile or so driving at shift points.

03's had the round cooler. I would be surprised if it failed. Also that code is more then likely caused by the intake.

I am having trouble following your post but some of those would not shift into lock up until a certain temperature. Once that temp was met, it would shift into lockup. If that is what you are saying, the ones I had always seemed about the time the temp hand reached the low normal bracket.

If you are saying the truck is sluggish, smoking, and running rough until it warms up, I had the one I drive at work do that here recently. It had a bad egr valve on it causing it. It was down on power all the time but especially bad when cold.

IMO - using Lucas oil additive would be a big mistake. If you think you have injector stiction and want to use an oil additive - use the Rev-X like you said. Rotella 5W40 is a good oil choice.

Carlton that is pretty much what I'm saying on the lockup. I plan on pulling the egr and cleaning it up as it seemed like a really simple job and an easy pm. I will order the rev x just out of curiosity why is Lucas bad

If you are asking whether it responds to WOT properly at cold.. it doesn't.

No diesel really does well in cold until it is at least partly warm.

The FICM is programmed to inject a tad more fuel, I think, at cold to keep up drivability in cold even if it smokes a bit.

The trick is to drive it slowly (1,500 to 2,000 rpm) until it is throughly warm or at a minimum, at the 1st or 2nd notch of the temp gauge.

------------

Does this thing have a working EGR?

------------

The MAF / MAP? Is it the atmospheric pressure sensor inside the cab correlating with the MAP?

On mine that goes out with the first deep cold (-10F or lower) and if it is erased, it stays erased.

Suspected cause is water in the Sensor in the Manifold turning to ice, and kludging it up.

Take out the sensor and clean it.

-----------

Gear I did that today and was much better. Honestly not sure on the working egr I would think the dealer I took it too would have told me if not but could be wrong. As far as the sensors I would be lying if I told you anything about them. I plan resolving all this this weekend hopefully as I.am headed to Michigan next weekend in it.

When you take it on the highway, do a bunch of WOT runs to clean it out as best as you can.

If you pass by a Ford dealer, get a bottle of Cetane boost.

Experimentally, try adding the stuff one day late in the drive --- then seeing if the next day, the cold performance improves.

If it does noticeable with cetane boost, you got a cetane problem.

------------------------------

I don't know where and what fuel you are running, but typical North American fuels have a lot of aromatics vs. aliphatics.

That makes it hard to raise cetane on an industrial scale without $$$

This winter, I am experimenting with high aliphatic fuel... and seeing what happens.

65 cetane.. here I come!
