I wanted to see if a frame from a short bed 1959 f100 was a direct swap for a same year panel truck frame. I recently saw a panel body for sale that did not have a title. I have a 59 swb truck that is rusty, but has a title. If the frames are interchangeable, is the glove box door the only other thing I would need to make the swap legit? Do the f100s and panel carry the same type of vin numbers? Thanks for the help.
Ugly, the F100-based panel came with the 110" wheelbase, meaning it was a shortbed. That info is according to a Salesman's Quick Reference Chart that I have.
The Body Type code for a Custom Panel Delivery(110" Wheelbase) - C82B
The Body Type code for a Standard Panel Delivery(110" Wheelbase) - C82A
There is a short extension added to the rear of the frame on the panels. On my vin tags there is a difference to the trim code #'s but body #'s are the same.
56,you may be right, but keep in mind that his is a 59,there are differences.I got the codes from a truck salesmans' quick reference slide-type chart for 1959 models. They didn't say anything about an extension, possibly because by the time of the 57-60 trucks, there were both 110" and 118" wheelbases. That chart shows the panels, in both standard and custom cab configuration, as being on the shorter wheelbase,no mention of any extension.Literature can and does have mistakes/misprints, though.
Yeah, I'm not up on the 57-60's series but thought that the frames would likely be the same. The extension I was refering to are just short pieces of C- channel that fits inside the frame rails. Both my pickup and panel have the 110" wheel base.
