I have a 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer all wheel drive. I have loved it as long as we have had it but living on a dirt road has taken its toll.
1) Lower front ball joint has play in it. Searched but didn't find a write up other than a 7 lug F150. Any help would be appreciated.
2) While driving straight hear a groaning. I can feel a different kind of resistance when turned just a little side to side. Guy at work says groaning is rear axle going bad. The noise is in direct relationship to the speed of the vehicle.
3) When stopping sometimes there is a clunking like something is shifting in the body or suspension. Sometimes it feels like the driver's seat also shifts like a bolt is loose.
4) Rear backup sensor not working. Is there diagnostic or can you replace individual sensors.
5) Stupid rear plastic hatch cover finally cracked. Home fix or body shop only?
Wife is having me consider a new Expedition but still would have to fix some of these problems if I was going to sell it. Thanks in advance.
Turned out to be a bearing in the case, truck would only make noise while moving at slower speeds and seemed to go away at higher speeds. If I put the truck in neutral it would stop. I thought it was the joint on the drive shaft and replaced the driveshaft but that wasn't it in my case.
