I do not know how to fix this...or if I can easily. I removed the drivers side hood hinge...but one of the head on a bolt broke off
Is there any access to the area in the picture? I can't drill out the bolt because the threaded clip (forgot what they are called) busted loose and the whole thing just spins.
Looks like you got a diamond in the rough. Seriously, I really like the truck. I have a suggestion. I do not know if it is the best way to fix this, but it is one idea if you have a welder. Scribe the existing center of the hole and then check with the hood hinge to make sure the hood hinge hole scribe marks are in the center of the hood hinge hole. Obtain a good section from a donor truck. Remove an area around the damaged hole.(Maybe about a 2 inch diameter). Fit the donor piece such that the threaded hole of the donor matches the scribe lines. Make sure the scribes are in place/go beyond the area to be removed. This will help in locating the patch. Tack weld in place. Check the fit of the hood hinge to the tacked in section. If necessary, remove tack welds and reposition as necessary. Weld with short welds until fully inplace grind flush. I have a repair panel if interested.
You could also determin the size of the patch first. Locate it to the truck/scribe marks. Trace around the patch. Cut out the area and then start the installation. Good luck, and again this is only one idea!!
Use three small tack welds to fix the fastener to the firewall, then drill and tap a new hole. This is a common problem with these and wiper bracket bolts. Ford used this fastener on Mustangs as well. Real PITA if the bolt breaks off or the fastener turns.
The same thing happened on mine during restoration. Just get a metal bar the size of the hole cut it to thickness and drill and tap the center. Mig weld it in and you can't tell the difference.
Thanks for the replies peeps Too bad I don't have a welder or know how to weld I do have a friend that I should be able to bribe into helping me though
