Reason: trying to get picture up.
Most tach wiring is pretty straight forward. There are some cases if you have an MSD ignition box where you'll need a special tach adapter box to make some tachs work. Assuming you don't have that, then I refer you to Bob Aliberto in Mustang Monthly, June 2011, on hooking up a Mustang Rally-Pac tach: "The tach needs to be wired in series between the ignition switch and the coil. Locate the power wire that runs to the coil and connect it to the red wire on the tach. The black wire from the tach connects to the coil so that all keyed ignition power runs through the tach before the coil. If a resistor is used, it should be connected after the tach, i.e., between the tach and the coil." You should also have a wire for the light and a wire for the ground. Your tach looks like it might be a VDO. If so, there's a set of instructions for installing a VDO tach on the web which I found by googling "VDO tach installation". There's a fair amount you have to do with "dip switches" to configure it for number of cylinders your engine has, and whether you are using coil or electronic ignition, but at the end of the day, with a coil ignition it's still pretty much red wire to switched ignition and black wire to the coil. Good luck.
Looks to me like it is for a specific application, or it would have wires coming out instead of terminals for a plug. If it were me, I would just go out and buy a new one with instructions. Yea, I know that means money, but electrical devices are nothing to invoke the trial and error method of installation. I hope you find what you're looking for.
Ok, so after looking and looking I think I found out where this take came from.
it looks to be the tach side of a rally pac made for a 66 mustang.
the site I found it on ebay then googled scott drake tach and there it was.
Its a aftermarket rally pac.
So now my question is has anyone ran this set up in there truck and if so how did you install it.
I remember messaging someone doing a whole rally pace in there f100 but my question is still on the wiring?
Same setup as the Ford Racing tach I installed in my 65. + is a fused acc power wire - is the ground and s goes to the coil. Can't remember for sure which side of the coil it hooks to. If nobody else answers, I'll look tonight when I get home.
Pretty sure you're right, but I'll check for sure. Good find! There is a complete Rally Pac for sale on Craigslist for $275 so finding that for cheap is good.
