I did some looking on here, but didnt have much luck finding the tow ratings for our trucks.
Here is what i have
1993 Bronco
5.8/E4OD/8.8 with 3.55 LS
Towing package
Im wating to tow a 18x7 enclosed trailer that weights around 5-6k.
Im sure the truck will handle it, I also know that it is a short wheelbase. But the trailer isnt all that long either. Id like to be able to tow at 70mph.
I need to install trailer brake controller before i tow it as well.
Tow weight is limited by the powertrain combo and vehicle curb weight, in your case the powertrain is rated at 11,000lbs GCWR(combined weight of truck and trailer) according to the owners manual, so find out what the truck weighs and subtract that from the total above and that's what you can tow.
I would also run a weight distributing hitch like EZhitch. the trailer brakes are a must also. my travel trailer weights about what your pulling and I found the ezhitch was a must due to the short wheelbase. I would not run at 70mph period.
Are you running the WD hitch because of the weight ont he tongue of the hitch, or just for stability?
Because im thinking that the truck wont sag very much, the trailer is very well balanced. I have put my tool box and quads in the back of the trailer to balance it out well over the dual axles.
WD hitches are very nice for pulling loaded trailers IF you set them up right. They will help you keep in more control. They push wt off the rear onto your front tires.
I pull a 31ft camper with my 94(F150), and without the hitch it can get a bit nerv racking. With the hitch I'll happily run down the road at 75 mph(interstate and no wind)
