Cool exhaust manifold help

Hi guys I have an 81 ford f150 with 300 straight six. In the exhaust manifold there is a butter fly plate. I had an exhaust leak that got on my nerves. The leak was right there at the rod that went through the manifold to work the butter fly plate. I removed the exhaust manifold and also removed the the rod and butter fly plate. Now I need to know what I could use to seal up the the whole where the rod was. I heard of guy pluging the hole but I dont know what to use. Can anyone help me with this issue please thanx.

Tap the holes and use small bolts or grub screws.

First off, removing the heat riser is probably going to cause you some rather unpleasant driving problems.

The heat riser is designed to, when the engine is cold, allow exhaust heat up underneath the carb to warm it up. Once it comes to temp, the heat riser closes to block off the super hot exhaust heat.

If you remove it, you're going to allow the exhaust heat to be coming up underneath the carb all the time which can make the carb run really hot and cause lots of headaches.

Hey AB, how does that 1984 300 I6 do with the intake manifold and the big holly on it?
I have almost the same set up engine wise everything is stock though. Thought about going to the C series with a 2 bbl. I have 6" lift with 3.55 gears with a 9" running 35s.

OK mmmmmmmmmm lets see I bought the truck 5 years ago and the heat riser probably has not work since I bought it the truck. The thing has leaked since I bought it and the temp coil has not been there either. I never had a problem with the truck so I dont think it reallymatters or not if the heat riser plate is there. So does any one what size tap it would take to tap out the whole? Please let me know thanx
