just got done an extensive rebuild of my 2003 6.0l!
Did: head gaskets, arp studs, new oilcooler, new hpop, egr delete, afe 4 inch exhaust, blue spring upgrade, banjo bolt upgrade, garret powermax turbo, upraded turbo lines.
This was my trial by fire into diesel motors. and i thought it was relitively simple. didnt have to remove the cab or front clip. just had to wait for parts mostly.
My problem before was bad hpop. was driving down the road back in march and she bogged down then shut off. trailered it to the local ford dealer and they said low oil pressure. so i pulled the motor and did a hail mary on it. checked all my stc fittings and oil rail plugs. put it all back together, then waited one month for the turbo that had express shipping and sat in the warehouse for 3 weeks.

but finally its all together and still dont start. at first i thought it was air locked but it still wont go.
then a friend mensioned that his dealer said that unplugging ecu requires a reset or motor wont start. anyone have the answer to this?

I don't know what kind of reset they could be referring to. The PCM isn't going to change or loose programming without being reprogramed and simply unplugging it would actually be beneficial.

How long have you cranked on it? I've cranked mine 30+ seconds after changing an injector. Did you have the oil cooler out and if so did your refill the reservoir? Are you getting a reading on the dash gauge? Have you double and triple checked the PCM and FICM plug-ins to make sure they're well seated? Have you been through the hard start/no start check list in the tech folder at the beginning of this forum?

just curious how were you able to get to the headstuds without taking the cab off or the front clip.

I believe he said that he "pulled the motor and did a hail mary on it" BUT... having not done this myself I'm not sure if it can or cannot be done without lifting the cab.

After having the system apart it will take quite a bit of cranking to get her started the first time. I do crank times of 30 sec or so with about 2-3 mins rest in-between for the starter. It takes about 6-7 cranks like this to get it started the first time. How much cranking have you done? As Tim said are you getting any oil pressure on the stock gauge yet? What about battery voltage? You may need to put the batteries on a charger with all the cranking m

pulled the motor out of the truck. put it on a motor stand. it is the only way i could do it as i dont have a lift and am not skilled with body alignment. dont even have a motor lift ended up using the tractor to pull it.

worked on it more today and got it to stumble. but i dont have the juice to crank it. both are new batteries. i put on 2 other vehicles with cables and still can only crank for 20 seconds at most.
I am getting oil pressure now on the gauge, but i think my starter might be gone, its like theres a dead spot in the starter when im cranking it.

I would charge your batteries real good and try again tomorrow. It really does take a long time cranking. The first one I did i got real frusterated and started wondering myself. If it has oil pressure on the dash guage and it did stumble then you are almost there. do you have access to a scanner that can moniter the pressures while you crank??

Got it to run. But it sounded like a air compressor. After I got it running I whent to the front of the truck and it was shooting air out the filter intake. So I torr back into the motor and found that a rocker was bent.

The first one I did did the same thing. Check all the rockers and push rods. I had two bent push rods also.

Take it you did what I did.
I never removed the oil rail, injectors, or the rockers when I pulled the head and installed it all as one unit. Guess I should have checked my rockers a little better.
But a learning and 150 buck experience

No I took it all apart but I must have had one not lined up right. I got me some from another diesel shop for 20 dollars. Used ones but they work great.
