High Mount Cummins A/C Bracket

I just FINALLY located a Cummins High Mount A/C Bracket and some related parts....if you are doing a Cummins swap...You WILL want this...it moves the A/C Compressor above the water neck...and gets that thing up away from the frame (Which it interferes with!!!)

Good deal Dave - glad to hear you finally found one. WISH I knew about these before I did my swap. Oh well.

On a side note - is the belt tensioner different with this or did you just not have one?

Not sure if they are the same or not...so I figured I'd grab it while I was there just in case.

Supposed to be having a guy at a hot rod shop from down the street from my buddies shop making me a copy of the Cummins Idler bracket...he told me he'd make it for me for nothing...and considering he has all the stuff to do it easily...and it would take me a while to build it...I jumped on it...now hopefully he doesn't flake on me!!! Then all I need is the 2 Alternator ones and i should be good on bracketry.

I know they were on the Bigger Fords...like F-800's etc....not positive what others....I have a part number list somewhere if I can find it....it requires all the parts in the pic....plus the mount for the tensioner. Here is a copy/paste from another thread I started in The Diesel Garage.com

The ac bracket generally referred to as the high mount was used on Ford and Freightliner medium dutys. The cummins part number for the mount is 3930822. The upper alternator mount is 3920862 and the lower one is 3930820. The lower water inlet on the Fords usually turns straight down. This generally won't work on a GM. There is one that goes straight out that will clear on those. The upper water outlet points straight up. The hose goes up and over the alternator arm. The ac compressor for this bracket can be found on ebay listing for Ford/Sterling ac compressor. The alternator bracket is designed for a 21si or 22si J180 style unit. These were used on virtually every medium duty truck. These alternators are 1 wire and have an output terminal for your charge light and one for a tach. You can use a Dakota Digital interace to link to your factory tach. There is also a cummins bracket that mounts an ac compressor on the top drivers side beside#1 valve cover. This one is found on Case tractors and uses an accessory V belt pulley mounted on the fan hub. I priced this set up once and it was between $400 and $500 just for the bracket, pulley and belt. You could probably have one custom made cheaper. The guys at GOS Performance have custom ac brackets. The high mount bracket can be found on virtually every Ford/Cummins medium duty application including school buses. Many times you will see the bracket without an ac compressor but has an ac delete pulley in its place. That way the belt length is the same with or without ac. Hope this info helps. I plan to use a high mount bracket but am putting my Ford vacuum pump in the ac spot. That will put it in exactly the same area as original.

The November 2012 issue of Diesel Power magazine has an article starting on page 140, part 7 of a series of articles about dropping a Cummins into a '91 Suburban. They list the Cummins part numbers that they used for the a/c compressor and alternator. I don't have a scanner, so I took a picture of the picture in the magazine on page 141 and copied the caption. Sorry the picture is so bad:

"The 5.9l Cummins fits the frame of '73 to '91 solid axle trucks well, but fitting the A/C compressor is a challenge. Dodge mounted its Sanden compressor low on the engine, and it hits the frame. We moved the compressor's mounting location using a Cummins water inlet housing and compressor mount (A) from a '95 Ford F-800 (Cummins PN 3930888). We sealed it to the engine with a new square-cut water inlet gasket (PN 3906697). This solved one problem and caused new ones. We then needed the tensioner mount plate (B) to bolt to the compressor mount (Cummins PN 3930838) and had to find a way to mount an alternator. We bought a new Sanden compressor (PN 4666) and belt tensioner (D) to replace the worn Dodge piece (Cummins PN 3978021), though you could reuse the Dodge part. We decided to upgradee to the heavy-duty truck alternator the Ford F-800 used. By adding the lower alternator mount (C) to our engine (Cummins PN 3930820), we were able to bolt on a 200-amp Delco-Remy 28SI alternator that dwarfs the alternator Dodge used. We tried using Cummins' upper alternator mount (Cummins PN 3920862), but it doesn't fit with the upper Dodge water neck on the engine. As you'll see next month, Mercenary Offroad is working on a solution to this problem."

I'm sure it worked fine. But you have to cut the crossmember on a highboy anyway. Why not just notch the frame for the compressor like I did. This way you still have the clearance for the boost tube to your intercooler.
