I'm looking at purchacing a F250 superduty so I'm
trying to find some websites on lowering
and type of wheels available.
In Australia we have no trucks available from dealers except the F250/350,only second hand Chevs,F150s and Rams that are importedand and converted from LHD to RHD.
I can find a lot of sites with gear for these but not for the 250
or Excursion.
Looking through the forums I see a lot lifted but none lowered.
After looking at Ford America's site you have alot more variety
than we do.
If interested check out www.ford.com.au
Thanks for the link. You have some awsome factory options for the f-series trucks!!!!! weird different models of cars too. They still have the ford Courier??? lol
Best way to lower a truck is to buy a used one that has done a lot of heavy hauling! The springs will be shot, and it'll sit lower.
Seriously, I doubt you could put smaller wheels on a SD, since there's little room between the caliper and wheel already. Maybe with a low profile tire you could pull the blocks out from between the axle and the spring, in the rear, but the front would be tough.
I'm not looking at smaller wheels,I'd
probably consider 18s as the smallest diameter.
I've found a suspension site,DJM suspnsion and they
have a 3/3 lowering kit for the F250/Excursion
but I'm just looking at other options.
If I can use maybe a 24inch wheel I might be able to get away
with lowered front coils and reset rear leafs.
Thats why I'm looking for some sites to get some ideas.
The problem is the F truck was discontinued in the late 80s or
maybe very early 90s in Australia and only started again
in 2000,so there is not the demand for late model aftermarket parts.
Well I have never seen a lowered Super Duty but have seen everything else lowered...My friends here are all about droppin their chevy's and 150's and honda's and what not.....One way to do it is to make a completely custom air suspension.....with using airbag's you can get rid of the springs and just have the bags....this also allow's for adjustment of ride height.......that's my opinion.........
We have several 250's and 350 DRW lowered in this area, I'm not sure who is doing the work but all of them really look good. I guess they don't really haul anything. One of the F350 DRW PSD is lowered so far that a small dip in the road will scrape the running boards. Go figure. Well it takes all kinds.
And after all, Each to thier own. Its what makes the world go round. and of course::-staun
Yes looking at some sport truck web sites there are
some impractical looking trucks but they seem to be
built for show only.
I'm not after something thats not super low just something
that will sit nice but is practical as I have a race car to tow.
I found some pics of lowered F250/350 and Excursions.
Once again if interesred www.sportruck.com/events/sema02/
and in each hall there are a heap of pics not only lowered but
raised trucks.
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Question from Australia
Far be it for me to question what someone wants to do to their truck, but why in the world would you lower an F-250? If you're looking for a lower, more compact vehicle, why not get a lighter duty truck? No offense, but the F-250 is a SUPER DUTY vehicle. Lowering a truck like that will undoubtedly change the performance & hauling capacity. Might as well save a few bucks and get something smaller to begin with. Not intended to offend -- please don't read it that way. It just boggles my mind to hear that someone wants to cripple a Super Duty by lowering it.
No offence take and I know where your coming from
but as mentioned before Ford hasn't brought a F series
in to Aus for over 8 years and Chev or Chrysler I dont think ever have.
I can get a 5.4L supercab 250 XLT from a Ford Dealer with factory warranty and there purpose built RHD for Aus$63K maybe cheaper with some negotiating.
The importers want Aus$55k for a 97 F150 extra cab which has just been convertered from LHD to RHD or more than Aus$90K
for a lightning or Harley Davidson F150.
Second hand Chevs are in the same boat a 2000 to 2002
is more than Aus$60K and once again there converted.
To follow up on my air bag suspension......just cause a truck is lowered doesn't mean it can't handle the same load......The one Company Air Ride Tech. makes a lowering kit for the Ford and Chevy duallie's that keeps the factory load cap.......they do look bad *** on the ground along with 10' up in the air......
