If you are talking about the EGT probe, yes, you need it for the gauge to work.
You mount the probe on one of the exhaust manifolds, preferably the drivers side right on the elbow. Here is a good writeup w/ pics for reference:
idk that little moduel box that $$$ beast i keep seing every were online is that the probe it kinda lookks like a msd ignition box i think, probe just as in the peice u screw into the manifold? and thanks for the link
I too am confused about this "module" you are talking about. That gauge in the link is ready to go, hook up the probe, give the gauge power and ground and put a light bulb in it. It will be cranking out egt readings for ya.
sorry yall, really am i was on this website awhile back and every egt gauge i look at said in big letters "must have moduel" and a link to it, but as i can tell wat yall have said i dont need it all i need is the thurmo prob like the link i posted i hope i right
I would get the gauges from Clay in my signature. When I bought mine I tried to save a few bucks and went with someone else. It turned out to be a big headache. They sent the wrong parts a couple of times.

Maybe those were Isspro EV1s. The probe sends a signal to a little box which processes then sends the signal to the gauge. I have those, they work great. The EV2s and and I think the Autometers do not have that box so they are simpler to install.
Definitely a good idea to get a complete kit. You might save a couple bucks sourcing separately, and maybe not, but with a kit from a good vendor (cough coughRiffraff) you'll have all the parts when you do the install and fewer headaches.
heres the link to the info on the ones im talking about, the price aint right and the vehicle aint right but theres the info i wanted to do the riffraff ones i just cant afford the $500 for the gauges or the dptuner :-( but ima savin lol
This is the guy I ordered everything through... Only reason I didn't go with clay was because I wanted the Autometer Phantom II's for my rig. I would check out some of the stuff this guy has on hand, should be able to stay within budget. I payed $334.94 out the door, with shipping. Got boost, pyro, trans temp and a 4 gauge pod so I had room for my f5 switch. I had everything at the house within about 4 or 5 days.

Remember that gauges are usually a one time purchase so it is better to save a little while and get what you want than wish you had for the rest of time.
Also, our kit includes what that Autometer kit has plus drill and tap, wiring harness and we also paint the pillar for you. Take all that off and you are almost the same price. IMO the Isspro EV2's are a more desirable gauge than the Autometer that are in that kit.
If you don't get them from Clay I would at least cross reference them on his site to make sure you are getting the right ones. I went with the autometer phantoms. When I looked up my truck on the link you posted it said no sku's were listed for my vehicle. So who knows what they would send or if they even have them.
