I am stumped, need some help!!!!

Hi everybody,
I just removed my old door hinges on my 77 f-150..The bolts that I removed will not thread back into the plate in the A- pillar.....I cant figure it out....If I take a Fender bolt (5/16-18) it will go in..

The factory hinge bolts that I thought were the same size, and were just removed from the same holes will not thread back in..

The end of the Factory Door hinge bolt is much fatter then the fender bolts, basically the same size as the thread. ..They will not grab the threads as if they were too big......

What size thread are the hinge bolts?.. please help...I have never had this issue...

Ps...The threads are not torn up, just weird...

No, had to heat and remove the bolts from the back of the plate because they snapped off, im thinking that there is ridge of rust stopping the bolts from going in....I just need the proper thread size...I think that its slighty bigger then 5/16-18....

I believe that they aer 5/16-18, Im pretty sure now that the stock door bolts were used to actually tap the nut plates....

get a tap and die set (or just the size you need that matches the bolts you took out) and run them over the bolts and into the plates to clean up all the threads.

you never know what will work until you try it

I had the exact same problem with mine. I tapped my cabs plate the hinges bolt to and the factory bolts still woldn`t go in. I ended up having to use some steel 5/16 on 18 bolts.

They are 5/16-18.

A buddy had same problem on his Dent once. We ran a tap through the holes to clean the internal threads ...
... and then took the bolts themselves and gripped them in a pair of vise-grips and just slightly tapered the thread end on a belt sander followed with a wire brushing.

Wouldn't hurt to apply a dab of Never Seize.

Yea, it was weird..The factory door bolts are larger at the end and were originally run into the nut plate without any threads..Self tappers so to speak.......I got it repaired now....Thanks everyone
