Tire Load Range Question

I have an F-150 Super Crew Lariat. I am looking to purchase new tires. I checked on some today and found the BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A and really like the look. I don't do much off road driving but want an all terrain tire that is a little larger than the factory size tire. The salesman suggested that I go with a 275/70/18. I like the size of the tire but it has a load range E. I am old fashioned and this makes me think it will ride rough being a "10 ply". Does anyone know if this still holds true or will I have about the same ride as my factory Bridgestones?

Well, if you fill them to 60 PSI, they'll ride rougher. Hard to say if they'll be rougher at the same PSI as you would run the other ones.

Should they not be inflated to the recommended psi for everyday driving? I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ I just don't want to put me or my family in danger. Should I look into a load range D tire instead?

i would not worry to much about it. they are rated to be maxed at 80 psi not 60. but you can still put about 50 in them and not have any problems. my neighbor runs his low. he also has some e range tires on his screw. he never inflates them to the 80 max psi, says his truck drives like a skateboard.

40 to 45 psi is fine when the truck isn't loaded up. I have been running E range 275/70-18's on my trucks for the past 4 years. They are a bit firmer then the standard p-metric stockers and just slightly firmer then the optional C range tires. This size is perfect for our trucks. I say go for it and enjoy the improvements they will offer. Plus, you can't beat the prices offered with this size. You can thank our brothers and sisters in Super Duty's for that.

Thanks svt2205. I'm having them installed Thursday. Looking forward to the larger tire look.

I have the following tyres on my 06 Crew.

BF Goodrich Baja
P285/70R17 A/T's

They are smooth, actually fairly quiet, and sticks like a politician does to a lie. Does give the asthetic appearence of a 4WD. Everyone always asks me why I removed the FX4 decals.... I just shrugg.

Apparently, they wear like iron as well from what I have been told from the truck gods. I just picked this truck up 06'XLT Crew 4.7 this weekend in Kingsville, TX for $12.8K with all the goodies included you see in the pics, so for full disclosure.... I dont have a lot to compare these tyres to. But I love the ride, feel, and performance so far from this truck. This is my first truck in 15 years. I have been a 325i BMW, so this is a significant change for me, but I also just very well may be easily impressed too.....

so if you will give me a penny for my thoughts, I will throw my .02 cents in.
