Did some research on here, but I figured I'd seek advice since every system is unique. The cat on my F250 had an annoying leak in the case, so it was removed (emissions exempt due to GVWR). Kept the stock cat inlet flange, took some 4" pipe, ovaled it to fit and welded it in. Took some 3", reduced it, and welded it to a 40 series, stock tailpipes welded to the exit. Truck sounds awesome around town, but at 65-70 on the freeway it's just annoying. Here's what I was thinking (I work at Midas so the skys the limit fabrication wise)
1) install a large glasspack or a Magnaflow before the muffler, hope it acts as a resonator
2) ditch the 40 series and weld in a 70 series that happens to be laying on the shelf.
Truck has a 351 with E4OD and 3.55 gears, will soon be switching to 265/75/16's (not sure what the effect on gear ratio will be).
None of those DroneMasters will produce any different results.. I have been through several now and they all sound the same. Either reduce the overall length of the complete exhaust system or substitute some other muffler with some damping material inside like a Magnaflow or Dynomax Super Turbo... which are the quietest of the performance mufflers. I have plans to install the biggest SuperTurbo available on my truck to try and quell the highway drone, the 17789 is 36" long with a 3" in/out.
