05 Escape Shifter Prob.
My shifter will not go from Neutral up to Rev and Park. I have removed the front cover on the shift lever and if I press the white stem down with my finger, I can get it to shift normally. It seems that the shift button on the lever is not pushing the stem down enough to allow lever movement. Strangely though, it will allow movement from drive down to 2 and 1. But if I try to go back up it will not allow movement above neutral until I manipulate the stem manually. The brake safety interlock allows me to run down from Park once I get it there. Is that white stem part of a mechanical linkage that goes to the shift linkage or is it just an electronic switch activator that sends a signal to allow shifting?
Anyone with experience and a fix on this? I can live with sticking my pinky in and getting it to shift, but my wife won't go for it much longer.
