Purchasing a used 32rls Cameo 5th wheel and the stock tires are ST235/80r16E which need replacing will LT235/85R16(F OR G) be to big? Meaning the clearance between the 2 tires or trailer.
Michelin XPS is what I was thinking about. It seems that there is not alot of choices. Trailer Dry Weight 10,330 lbs and Gross Weight 14,180 lbs. An E rated tire should be plenty. Would like to stay with a USA made tire not one of the china crap tires. I like to think that a country that craps in a toilet might make a better tire than a country that craps in the street.
the 80 vs 85 is the width of the tire 235 is the height.
235 is the width in millimeter, 235mm wide. 80 and 85 is the aspect ratio based on the width think of 85 as 85% of the width only used as sidewall height.
Just want to caution the OP about going to F or G rated tires. If the wheels aren't rated for the tire pressures that the tires are spec'd at then you are shooting yourself in the foot. I believe most 16" wheels are only rated for about 3200lbs, which is right in line with an E rated tire.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 235 the width and the 85 the height, as a percentage of the width?
You are correct. Here is a simple equation to determine overall tire diameter.
235/85/16 tire.
235/25.4 = 9.25... (this is the width in millimeters divided by 1 inch (25.4mm) to determine width in inches)
9.25*.85 = 7.86... (width * aspect ratio. Aspect ratio represents sidewall height as a percentage of tread width, in this case 85% of 9.25)
7.86*2 = 15.72... (sidewall height times 2. Because you have 2 sidewalls, above wheel and below wheel)
15.72+16 = 31.72... (total sidewall height plus rim height gives you overall diameter of the tire.
If you know these numbers you can figure out the overall diameter of any tire. I have done this sitting ot the counter of Discount tire on my phone. Comes in handy sometimes.

Thank you, after doing a little searching I saw that would have to up grade the rims. So I think I might go with 245/75r16E I think that will be pretty close to stock for the trailer, but still doing a little more homework.

Aren't LT's light truck tires? I would not put light truck tires on a trailer. Trailers require trailer tires exclusively. I know all have put what ever tires we can find the cheapest on our trailers. When we increase thee weight of what we are hauling, safety is paramount and the damage a premature blowout can cause to the trailer... Just saying..
The manufacturer installed LT tires on my 5th wheel from factory. Love 'em!!! In fact, they came with that tire size you mentioned! And it was a Larado M/S
