what are you guys running for exhaust set ups if you changed them out. i am looking for info on tubing size, if you went with a dual in/out, or single in/dual out combo or whatever it is that you guys may have done for an exhaust setup. i am looking to change my exhaust soon and want a nice tone to it, but nothing that is going to kill my gas because i get on it for no reason...
I'm still running the stock setup, but once I get the spare cash saved up I'm gonna run a single in dual out flowmaster 40 on my 5.4. I like it kinda noisey but I've heard nothing but good about a magnaflow, only thing about those is they are kinda pricey and my exhuast guy told me they're kinda quiet when you leave the CATs on it.
My buddy has a 4.2 and he's running the same flowmaster set up, for a V6 it actually sounds pretty good... At idle.
yeah i am kind of leaning towards magnaflow myself with the single in and dual out as well...but i have been pricing out headers as well and have considered a dual in and dual out as well...i just dont want to overspend on an exhaust set up that i am not going to be satisfied with
My 98 4.6l I started with just a cherry bomb with all stock piping, then moved to a single in dual out flowmaster 40 series. That muffler rusted out, so I just had a y-pipe welded up, so now I have stock manifolds, stock cats to a single in dual out y-pipe with 2.5" all the way out under the bumper. I LOVE the way it sounds! I get compliments all the time.
pacsetter headers, stock cats, single in duel out cherry bomb extreme dumped at the rear axle. sounds mean at idle and cruising speed.
out of curiosity, why did you go with shorty headers over long tube? and this set up sounds about what i am looking for. if you dont mind, how much did you pay for it all?
well i was looking but my buddy bought them for his truck but decided to go with longtube. i payed $75 for them but about $250 new. pain in the butt to install but i did. muffler was $60 and the shop charged $30 to install. in the future i may switch to long tube and go with 2 magnaflow high flow cats or just get rid of the cats all together. not decided yet.
i got the magnaflow cat back setup. sounds almost stock at idle but has a nice tone when it revs up. its nice because its not a big attention getter but still sounds good
Mine was a quick decision change to have a steady rumble but not anything I could hear my stereo over. I cut out my stock muffler and welded in a 4" body straight tube cherry bomb glass pack with the needed extra pipe to make up the gap. Exhaust exits at the stock pipe, but damn I like to hear it rip when I'm feeling cocky. IMO, cheap easy and not to bad for a 4.6L.
