I need your guys help. Im 800 miles from home at parents house in northwest Indiana with min tools. I know you guys seen this a hundred times before, I was towing a trailer loaded with wood and pulled in the driveway and looked back and I see white smoke coming out of the exhaust. So I parked it unloaded the wood and then checked the oil and I was 2 quarts low so I added 2 quarts thinking that might be it but it keep on smoking. It seems to be running fine except for the white smoke which is not normal when its in the 80's and the truck is already hot. It starts fine and idles fine. Can it be a ICP. I havent tried anything else after adding the oil. I have a couple of days before I have to leave and drive back to South Carolina.
All your expertise is much appreciated
Check the tail pipe for oil residue. If residue is present then the turbo seals could be the problem. Check the turbo exhaust connections for signs of oil as well. Does the white smoke only appear at low rpms?
First things first return tuning to stock, to reduce fueling, look for boost leaks, is the smoke pure white or is it blue tinged as if it was oil burning, also check for excessive blowby, and finally look at HPOP oil resivor level, post results maybe we can get some brain storm ideas for you!

The smoke is pure white, but I will take my chip out and ck for blowby and ck the oil in the HPOP.
Have you noticed any power loss at all? And is the oil consumption new? When was your last oil change and what oil weight as some oils will froth when they break down causing injection pressure problems you should see this in the HPOP resivor or on the dip stick, smoking at idle is very rarely a fueling issue usually oil consumption ie..burnt piston, broken ring, turbo shaft seal,... Good luck
[quote=ToMang07;10475345]My understanding of smoke colors indicate:
Grey/Black = Fuel Blue = Oil White = Water/coolant.
Have you checked your coolant levels? Any discoloration?
Hope it isn't..... good luck. [/quote
Come to think of it my coolant level is below the min line but I was waiting to change it till I got back to SC and I just got my 4 gal of Chevron ELC

After I noticed the white smoke I didnt take it for a ride to notice any power loss. To be honest I didnt ck the oil in a while but there's about 4K on the oil and right now i'm using 15w40. I hope it isnt a burnt piston or broken ring. I could deal with turbo shaft seal.
The big question is can I still drive the truck and if I didnt get it fixed before I left to go back to SC is it good to drive the 800 miles back?

How low was the coolant and how did it look? Any oil or diesel in it?
I hate to say it but it could be a bad head gasket.
Also, have you checked your fuel bowl to make sure theres no oil in it?
Until you know the reason behind the smoke no it's not advisable to make the trip, but you should take a test drive to see for diagnostic purposes, and locally ie to a shop preferably for a professional tech to check it out! I know you would be in no more than 150.00- 250.00 at my place in Az, so Indiana shouldn't be much different, but I would recommend you do that since time is of a concern and it could be a simple fix,to a complete overhaul, it docent mean they have to do the work, and most shops really dont mind pointing you in the right direction!

The coolant is about 3/4 inch below the min line and it still looks gold color but I didnt ck to see if there is oil in it or diesel. I haven't ck,d the fuel bowl yet but I will.

I agree... I wouldn't go far.... and would be/drive very cautiously!
If its something major...you don't want to fry the engine alltogether and be out 10k!
