Exhaust ???

Ok I know this has been probably been pounded a few tims but I got a few different options and need some opinions. First off about 2 years ago I had a SI/DO exhaust put in and asked for a Flowmaster 44 series but it was back ordered so I wanted the 40 series. Well the guy ended up putting on a Flowpro and wouldnt change it for the other one (he said I would have to pay for the labor on changing it) I laughed and said just keep it on. Well I have been wanting to change it a few months ago but decided not to. Well after washing my truck today I noticed the exhaust pipe was moving around. I crawled under the truck and relized that the back have of my muffler fell off.

So now I need a new muffler. Which is the best sounding muffler for these trucks that have 4 cats on them? MBRP? Flowmaster? Magnaflow? Also whats the advantages of having a true dual exhaust vs. what I have SI/DO? If its cheap enough maybe I can get that done instead. But really dont wana spend a whole lot of money. And last question I have seen some videos of these trucks on youtube with a straight pipe. Are these really louder in person cause its hard to tell on video? I dont want annoying loud but I want a good sounding louder truck. Could a straight pipe be an option or should I stick with a muffler. Thanks guys

Best sounding is subjective. Suggest doing some searches on youtube and find something you like. Maybe see if there are board members near you that might have the same setup. All in all it is like buying a chair in my mind. You can get everyone saying this is and that fit my **** like a velvet glove but until you sit in it you will not know for certain.

As for the true dual I have read here it is a waste of money. Redoing all the tubing and a new muffler with either SIDO or SISO matters not except for looks and sound as well. Once you get mandrel bent tubing and a good flowing muffler that is pretty much it unless you get long tube headers and then you have to tweak the computer I believe. IF the cats are plugged up replacing them might restore power lost.

As for straight pipe, you will get stink eye from your neighbors when you come roaring in or out at 2am...

I have also read that if you have hard winters the stainless is worth the extra money for durability.

Ya being in Michigan we have some hard winters. Like I said I didnt want this cheap muffler but thats what the A**hole put on. I watched some videos on youtube and they didnt seem that loud but its a video and hard to tell. My buddy has a dodge with a straight pipe and thats loud but I dont think he has his cats on either.

Does Magnaflow have a stainless muffler? I have heard they make some good sounding mufflers but dont know anything about them. I wanted a flowmaster but it seems like everyone has a Magnaflow on these trucks. I just need to find which one sounds the best.

magnaflow is one of the best and true duals are a waste of money and unless you put an H pipe in it wont sound as good as it could. i would go to some other shop and have a catback custom made. i have an edelbrock SDT exhaust on my 07 and it looks ok and sounds good but on my 84 i got a custom one made and it fits so well i will not waste any more on box exhaust kits. buy the muffler you like and have a shop put it together how you want it.
hell, around my town you can get a catback custom made with muffler for $375 out the door.

Well I already have duals going out the back. Its nothing real special. I dont know much about exhaust work and stuff like H pipe and Y pipe etc. But what my truck has now is a catback with a SI/DO with two pipes coming out the rear. One on each side of the trailer towing package. Im just stumped on if I want to just put a straight pipe in and keep it cheap since I dont drive the truck much. Its mainly used right now for me to goto the fire hall on runs or meetings since I have a car for gas mileage to get to and from work. Or do I want to put a muffler in and see if the guy will take the rear two cats off. He has done this for a few of my buddies on their trucks. Or just put a muffler in and leave it as is.

I was getting bored on how my truck sounded. It was not really loud. I have heard other trucks like mine that sounded a whole hell of a lot better. I met a guy at a local ambulance service where I put in time for my EMT class and he had a 2005 or 2006 F150 with a 5.4 and he had a stock exhaust with a different muffler and it put my truck to shame. He didnt know what was done to it cause he bought it like that.

put the straight pipe in and see if you like it. the four cats are going to reduce sound alot and it could sound good with only them and straight pipe out the back. its only a few bucks for a Y pipe.

an H pipe added to a true dual exhaust will balance the exhaust pulses and give them a deeper sound, true duals tend to be raspy with chamberd mufflers like flowmaster's and having an H pipe will reduce this.
