i recently bought a 68 m100 pickup truck, 240 with 3 on the tree. was wondering if anyone would know the model number of the transmission and the carbureator, its a single barrel with manual choke, oilbath air filter but no tag or plate. vin is f10arc00070 has 131 wb and 5000max gvw. c 09 trans body 3381. main question being what brand odf transmission and carb i got
trans is most likely a ford design (i think its a 3.03 but im not positive)
post the warranty plate info and someone more knowledgeable than i will decode it for you. do a google search on "carter yfa" and "autolite 1100" and that will help narrow down what carburetor you have. although there where several versions of each that could have been swapped onto the engine. the forum members will help you narrow it down from there
I was under the impression that 67 was the last year for Merc's. Maybe I'm wrong on this. Your vin has a pretty low production number, maybe it slipped under the wire? Has your truck been through a resto? Just curious.
Are you in Canada?

I've got a couple of '68 Mercs here, one built in San Jose(feb 68) and one from Oakville(mar 68). They're both original 240 3 spds but one has a carter and the other has the autolite. Different plants installed whatever they could source, I guess.
The trans decodes as the light duty 3 speed and the 09 refers to the rear axle, 3.70 ratio; built in San Jose in aug '67. There might be a part number stamped on the base of carb that could help. I've been researching these trucks for a few years now and that serial number looks familiar to me. Would that truck happen to be dark green?
That's probably the one I came within a whisker of buying about six years ago when it was sitting out at Hay Lakes. Can't remember how I got distracted but I was sore from kicking myself when I found out it was gone. My oakville '68 is its twin except mine's a custom cab, with the aluminum grill and extra chrome trim. Let me know if I can help with parts or anything.
...just looked at your pics, that is the same one. I remember the 65 galaxie hubcaps...
the remaining hubcap is gone now, bought it off a kid in camrose, his mom gave it to him after truck was abandoned on their rental property. going to do brakes this week, driver rear fell on ground in pieces when i pulled drum and most of wheel cylinders are wasted. got a carb rebuild kit and couple of switches then should be able to drive it.
Got lots of spare parts, switches, wiring here if needed. It seemed to run okay when I was looking at it. I was going to bring up spare drums and shoes so I could drive it home but other priorities got in the way...
Good luck with it.
I am looking for a turn signal switch and possibly other electrical bits, horn and heater don't werk. Would u know the average cost of replacement windshield?
Seems like windshields are about 150-200 installed around here. For the horn diagnosis, I'd check to make sure the two spring loaded brass contacts are present; one in the wheel itself and the other on the t/s switch; then check wiring and relay beside the battery. Take the heater apart to check for mice after sitting so long and maybe pressure test the core...
I should have resistors, motors and other stuff around.
My Merc originally came with the 240 and 3 on the tree also. The engine was seized, so I donated the engine and trans to my auto shop class. In exchange, my teacher let me bring my Merc in the class to work on it.
Since you`re already into the brakes, now might be a good time to think about power disc brakes from a 70`s F100/150. Just a thought.
might go the disc brakes route for the front in the future, gonna get everything operational for now so i can get it on the road, turned out it has a autolite 1100 carbureator after all, really seems to be just whatever factory had laying around i guess. Got tires new brakes and wheel cylinders, old wool army blanket seat covers, new reverse light switch, stop light switch and the 1100 rebuild kit all ready to go on .
