Are the frames the same?

Are the frames of an '68 F100 and "68 F250 the same? I want to convert my F250 to a half ton so I can lower it. Otherwise, does anyone know how I can lower my truck without switching everything out? I want to drop it 1 to 2 inches front and 2 to 3 inches in the rear. I found an F100 that I can buy pretty cheap but I want to make sure its possible first.

The difference if any will be minute you should be just fine using the frame. There is a very large difference below the frame is very real from the springs to axles etc.

Someone has posted on here that F250 frames are thicker gauge metal, but all mounting points are the same.

Yup, mounting points are the same, but F250 has 10gauge frame while the F100 has a 12gauge frame (.102" vs .081" thickness). A 69 F250 longbed is still only about 4500lbs.

So, would a lowering kit for a F100 fit a F250 without switching anything out?

Are you talking drop I-beams?

I guess so. Ive called around to find a lowering kit for the 250 but no one makes it. What would be the difference in the 100? There are plenty of options for lowering kits for those. I thought about cutting the springs but I dont want my wheels to ride on the inside of the tire. The rear is easy to lower

If you just want an inch to inch and a half you can just take a coil off the springs. Find a good old school alignment shop that can bend I-beams to restore your camber. If you want more the 3" drop I-beams will fit the F250.

Most were actually 4X2's, 2 wheel drives sold in far greater volume in those days. 4 x 2's were much easier to get a camper on as well.

milehighf150,

I just bought a '67 F250. The guy included a rear lowering shackle kit. He didn't install it, but did include it with the sale. Superior Automotive, P/N 13-4100, lowers it 2". I think it's only about 50 bucks at Kragen's or Napa. The box says it's only for newer half-tons, but if it's the wrong part, they probably have an equivalent for the older 3/4 ton trucks.

Anyway, just an option (it's cheaper and easier than buying a new frame). Dunno what you'd do for the front end, though.

To 4x4jedi, my '67 is also a 2wd Camper Special, so at least one of 'em got off the assembly line without a transfer case and front differential. Dang, I _knew_ they forgot something!

I just figured that if you were camping in the 60s-70s you wouldnt be going to a paved campsite. Lol.

The only 2 camper specials I have seen were both 4x4. One was bump and the other a dent.
