I was contacted by someone asking me to help them move their trailer. It is a 39' camper trailer. It is a tongue pull trailer. My concern is that the trailer will be too much for the truck to handle. What do you guys think?
Um, those trailers are very heavy! And that's all I'm saying. Pulling wise you can handle the weight but tongue weight will be a problem. I've seen em hauled with ton and halfs and they looked over loaded.
How far are you towing it? I dont know if "park" models are heavier, than towables. I still think with a Weight Distribution hitch, You would be fine. I cant imagine it at more than 8 or 9,000 lbs. My camper is 10 feet shorter, and weighs 6,000 empty, around 8 loaded. But mine is a light model too. Someone who is way smarter than me will help you!
some of the biggest 5th wheels are only 15k lbs. and what usually make a unit a park modle are little things like a full size fridge.
for the short distance i would say you are fine. there should be a data sticker on it stating what the weight is. its usually on the front left corner.
i was at a camping world a few months ago looking at campers they called park modles or destination trailers and they were all around 15K lbs (40 ft long). but even at that you are still looking at probably 2000 lbs of tongue weight. its gonna sit you down if you dont have weight distribution. make sure the trailer brakes work. if they dont i wouldnt pull it.
Maybe we are talking about 2 different types of trailers. I'm referring to the kind that looks like a mini mobile home. Not your average camper. For hurricane Katrina that's what we called park models. So se of these have full kitchens mounted on the tounge. Am I thinking of the wrong style trailer?
