I have been looking for a couple days now and am considering replacing the stock radio with a navi unit. truck is a 2001 F-250 psd. Will the navi work without having one on it or will I have to get something special to make it work? And can someone thats not use to doing things like this do it fairly easy?
If you look at the brand name 2 din units, alpine, kenwood, pioneer, they all have units that would come complete. Install and all good to go. I just put in a 7" kenwood DX7160 unit with all the bells and whistles. It was a fairly easy install with only minor trimming needed on the dash cover that goes around the deck. There are threads on here with great write ups and pics to follow, you just have to use the search tool, maybe even in the super duty forum.
There are also a number of people that are using the cheaper china units with good results. It is more about the features you want and the price u want to pay.
Here is a good link to start the search on what u want. Car Audio Stereo - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers
I ended up with the whole system, speakers, sub, new deck, and amp, so wired up with new wiring.
I agree with the above post. Stick with a name brand. They cost a little more but its worth it. I like Alpine best but its just my choice & I want to use the Imprint system they have.
