rocker arm torque question
rocker arm torque question
Should I break the rocker arms loose and retorque them to 20 ft./lbs. or just check to make sure they are at least torqued to 20?
I've torque checked all my bolts and each one clicks at 20# without moving at all.
I am just wondering if the constant heat cycles will hold the threads in at more than 20#, while the actual pull down of the bolt could be less than 20#
Thanks

I noticed the same with mine. The injectors were all loose, but the rocker arms seemed to be tight. I decided to break them loose and re-torque just to be sure. I have had the covers off since and rechecked everything and they are still tight.
I didn't break mine loose.. I set wrench to 20 and they clicked the wrench.. My wrench could be off a bit as well as yours, My calibration is due.. If my wrench is set to 20 and only putting out 18 then breaking loose and re-tightening will put them at 18.. I was just unsure of the accuracy of my torque wrench.. They are in a box now to take to work to check for accuracy/calibration.. last year i had a inch pound wrench be off almost -20 all of a sudden. Made me think, What was i working on last !.. O NO. That is why i check every year especially doing motor work. Mostly i see torque wrench fall down. hardly ever get stiffer if i ever had seen one get stiffer.. So if you have an old wrench it could be WAY off..
