parktronic sensors not working

so i tried posting in a different section and got no feed backs,
So I have an 04 excursion and just all of a sudden the rear parking assist sensors turns off without me flipping the switch. Could this be a bad sensor or did I blow a fuse somewhere, sometimes it does work @ first start only though. Has anyone had this problem before???? I didn't hit anything nor does anything look like it was hit

Thanks in advance for the help

You'll need to have it looked at by someone with a full diags system. I just bought a Snap On Modis for my shop and it will do the parking system - found that my right - outer sensor is the one causing me issues. I'm not going to fix it - I use the mirrors and the backup camera to move the beast.

If it works sometimes i dont think its a fuse.

Here are a few more options,
If it works sometimes at start try:

1) use emergency brake
2) turn ignition to on (just before it starts engine)
3) put truck in reverse
4) have someone go to each sensor and cover one at a time
if you get beeping sound the one covered is GOOD.

Original part is about $90. very easy to install.

OR

Most Dealers charges $94 to plug in and give an estimate. If you go this route you will pay about $200-$249

OR in my case,

I went in to dealer, went to parts department got price of part about $90.
Then approached my service advisor and the tech i use and asked for a quote to replace 1 sensor. Tech said its a 30 minute job plus parts. I ended up paying 149.OTD. 1 year warranty parts and labor.

Hope this helps,
Michael

I too have just encountered this same problem. I have tried the reverse thing and your suppose to hear a sound when you tap them or cover them. This was not the case for me on all 4. I have also read that if the speaker goes bad you get the same effect. Now i'm trying to figure out how to test the speaker..

If I figure anything out I will update this thread.

I found this info in another post.
  • If you trust your wife, put her in the drivers seat.
  • Start the truck (I REALLY trust my wife)
  • Ebrake on.
  • Put it in reverse.
  • Touch each sensor. You should feel a slight tapping on each sensore. If one sensor does not give you the tapping, then it is bad and should be replaced.
  • If all sensors give you the tapping then it could be the backup speaker is going bad.
  • Remove the passenger rear quarter panel cover. I started on the outside edge (near the rear opening) and pushed in towards the wing window.
  • Disconnect the speaker.
  • Put an meter to the speaker to check continuity. If it doesn't have continuity then it's bad. Replace the speaker. I used one from a old birthday card and resoldered the stock connectors to it. But I hear the stock speaker is pretty cheap.
Also with mine, the parking sensor light on the switch was constantly on. This lead me to the speaker being the problem.

i found that on both my 2000 and 2002 that the pass side outside sensor was bad on both. i just put a drivers side sensor off my '00 in my '02 and it works perfect. same part #s for left and right. the difference is whether its inside or outside.

So I tried this morning and it just turns off automaticly I even left itin reverse n just turned the key on(not cranking it) and it beeps but goes into the off switch immediatly I might just have to take it to the dealership as much as I don't want to spend the $$ but I sorta rely on the rear sensors in these tight NYC parking spots

Unless anyone else has answer

I still think chances are high you have a bad sensor, since your speaker beeps.
