i am having issues where my 2002 ford escape (v6 automatic) is idling quite low and will die if i shift from R to D and vice-versa if the AC is on.
so i replaced the IAC just for giggles, and that did nothing.
I was checking out the engine while doing this however, and noticed that there is a hose near the IAC that is connected to nothing.
it sits in a clip right along a belt on the drivers side.
I'm trying to figure out where this hose is supposed to go. any help would be appreciated. i've taken a few pics, i'm not sure if it's easy to see though.
first pic shows where the hose comes from. it's between the main radiator hose and the battery. drivers side.
second pic is a pic of the disconnected/broken end of the hose. it just ends right there below the iac pretty much.
The symptom of having a low idle could be many different things. I ran into this problem at about 127,000 miles on my 01, it was the lower intake manifold gaskets leaking.
You could have a vacuum leak. When I pulled the intake manifolds, there are a bunch of vacuum lines on the rear side of the manifold, some of them were in such bad shape they would crumble in my hands. Just be patient on finding the problem, it can be one of those frustrating things!
