I have tried to search for this answer but.....don't quite get what I think I need. So here goes: 1997 F250 7.3 PS. Front tank acts full at the pump. Tried moving nozzle in and out slow and fast. Ran for about 30 miles then started sputtering switched to rear and all is good. Can here switch when moved. Front tank sending unit does not work shows e all the time. Is there a vent tube possibly clogged so I can't add fuel or what? Has been running this way for about 2000 miles. Not a daily driver. Tanks have been cleaned and filters replaced within 2500 miles. I have had the truck about a year and have had plenty of fun with various issues Any help is appreciated.
There is a vent tube but it's just to relieve the pressure built from fuel sloshing, and vapors, ect. Sounds like the tank is full from what you're saying. If you're sure the selector valve is working. I would suggest taking the bed off instead of trying to lower a full fuel tank. Take the sending unit out and inspect it and the tank. There is a rubber screen on the bottom of the pickup. It looks like and upside down funnel and is notorious for breaking off or apart. You may have a piece of it stuck over your pickup tube. While you're there check the ground for the sender it's on the top of the frame by the tank. Good luck.
The other option is that the tank is actually empty, your sending gauge is working and your rollover valve in your fill neck is not allowing you to fill the tank. Could you try siphoning off some fuel to see if there is anything in the tank?
Thanks for the replies. I will try to take a look this weekend but... my son's Chevy now wants to act up Guess that's what happens when you own old trucks?
Maybe you just need to do the vent mod. That darn little hose down the middle of the fill tube is insane. Its probably kinked or something is blocking it. With the vent mod I can now fill up where the 'big' trucks do, lol.
Could the pick up ttube be blocked? I would wait for it to act up then pull over and open the fuel filler cap and lsten for the sucking sound and see if it straightens back out.
ALSO, the best part of having old trucks is NOT having truck payments
