Hi , this is my first time here. I recently bought an MIL Eliminator because at last inspection (August) my mechanic said I would need new cat converter to pass emissions. A friend told me about the MIL Eliminator and advised to me to empty/ gut the converter for better gas mileage. I asked my mechanic about it and he said to do more research because I might lose "back pressure" and have additional problems ie: EGR Valve. He's fine with the MIL. Has anyone ever gutted their Cat? I have a 1999 F-150 4.6 Liter. Any help appreciated.

The guy at my local muffler shop gutted the cat on my 93. My truck had got to the point that it wouldn't even run, because the cat was so plugged up.
So that being said I can't really tell you if it had any benefits to doing it, as I don't really have anything to compare it to. From all early recollections of when I bought the truck. I can only say i think I got a bit more horse power, and possibly a bit better milage, but I can still watch the guage moving to empty as I drive. lol

OK, if you are going to need a new cat to pass emissions, how will you pass with a gutted one? Why did he say you will need a new one? If you have a sniffer test, it will never pass without a cat.
You won't be able to tell any difference with a gutted cat vs. one working properly.
There is no sniff test anymore, it's strictly the computer. MIL Eliminator will take care of that. It came in the mail today... again my question is will it negatively affect another part of the truck because of lack of back pressure.
