AC not getting cold

I have a 2008 F150 and previously owned a 2006 F150. Both had the 5.4 and both were similarly equipped. My AC in the 2008 absolutely sucks and the truck has only 29,000 miles on it. The ******* dealership told me the AC system in the 2007-2008 models are different than the 2004-2006 models. He said the 07-08 models inherently don't cool nearly as well as the 04-06 models did. Is that pure BS or is it fact?

My 2008's AC also stops blowing cold air on anything more than gradual acceleration. He said the 07-08's were designed to do this to send more power to the wheels. I call BS again.

Please chime in if you know anything about our trucks' ACs and whether my stealership's comments are fact or BS.

My BS detector just pegged full scale and almost broke its needle!!

I see you're out in AR, so I don't know what it's like out there. I was going to say if your humidity is high, the A/C has a tougher job to 'cool' things down.

My '05 AC seems a bit weak. I topped off the freon a while ago, but it didn't seem to make much difference.. The biggest issue I have is there's some deal with my blend door not shutting off hot air completely. So with A/C off, it's always blowing warm air even if it's cold outside.

Last weekend, I 'rebooted' the temperature controller by unplugging power to the unit and then powered it back up. Same thing happens if the battery is disconnected for a while. You can hear the motor and doors moving around when power comes up again.

The jury is out to see if that makes any diff. Wife has been driving the truck, but she hasn't said/complained about anything yet...

Any idea how to fix the blend door? I'm about to pick my truck up from the dealer and want to call them on their BS and mention the blend door.

the only diffrence i know is the engine fan clutch on 07-08 is electronic controlled by pcm, but could still be faulty. I know in 06 there were some faulty fan clutches on the trucks. Mine was faulty the first day i drove my new truck home. My truck on a hot start up would not cool at all until on the road. Blend door could also be culprit.

I just got a 2007 F150 last week. I must admit that the AC is much better than my 2002 F150. Both have automatic climate control, the AC on old one was inconsistent. Doesn't always work, but seems to work better in cooler temps such as night time. On the newer truck, it blows cold air nicely even driving away from parked in hot sun during the day.
Based on my experience your dealer is likely BSing you.

My 2007 A/C got a workout during 100 degree + nasty humidity in VA a week or so ago. It did as well as my old '90 F150 even though the cab is bigger.

The A/C on my '04 crew is weak too. Checked the system many times. I'be mentioned topping it off but adding to it would over pressurize the system. The air temp out of the vents is 48deg when we put a thermometer in it. But still, it doesn't cool well at all any time. There are many components to check and I hope to het it figured out.

AC

I have a 08 FX4 and its AC is MUCH better than the 03 Expy that I had....
but I read a post on here a while back about a guy that was having AC issues and in the end he figured out that the heater control valve never completely closed, so there would always be hot water flowing thru your heater. Hense why there is always hot air coming from the heater... but its like that on all fords.... so to cure it he put a cutoff valve on his heater supply line and in the summer months just closed the valve. Wire tied it, just to ensure it either stayed closed or open... fixed the problem!

How is the fan clutch controlled by the PCM?

One of the biggest complaints on my '07 was the AC. It never got as cold as it should have. I never pursued the problem and ended up trading it in, but yes, the AC was horrible.

The SD is much better but nothing holds a candle to my '99 Windstar. 215k and I've never had one issue with the AC. No recharge no nothing. I could probably chill a beer in there if I tried.

You might want to look into one of those heater core bypass kits. Might help.

I'm not very happy with the a/c in my 07 either. I live in the Phoenix area and it gets hot, its been 105-110+ the last week or so.

It doesn't seem very efficient until you are at freeway speeds and even then it will take 15 minutes of driving to get to a comfortable temperature in the cab. When I am in stop and go traffic I get that humid feeling and wet smell in the cab. I also can hear the fan cycle on and off the slower I'm moving.

Its charged up. How does one test the operation of the PCM controlled fan clutch operation?
