I am about to have my base plate gasket, rear main and oil cooler seals all replaced. It requires the cab to come off for the repairs. I am concerned about others that have had this or similar work done by the Ford Dealer and what issues arose afterwards? Ford says they do it all the time, but I think it is a lot of work and many things can go wrong. What issues have come about after similiar work has been done? I really want to believe Ford that this is common work in their shops and once it's fixed, the leaks will go away and the truck will run well without any other problems arising from the cab coming off or collateral damage or issues.
Oh, its a 03, 6.0, CC 4x4 lariat.
I just got my truck back after the cab was off for a bed plate repair. i was told it was now fords recommended way of fixing the bedplate. anyways iv had it back for 3 weeks now and and except for a loose battery cable and a still disconnected ground cable - everything is good and the truck is leak free
why would they pull the cab for a bed plate? Even after pulling the cab the motor will still have to be pulled to fix the bed plate. I would think that they would just pull the motor from the start. Why waist the time pulling the cab, and then pulling the motor?
Pulling the cab was recommended by Ford. They said it is easier to pull the engine.

no matter how much you wish to belive this and widh to argue about it. its misinformation and thats what it is.
Perhaps if I was a real Ford tech with many years experance behind me I would know better.

The question should be can you trust the tech who is performing MAJOR work on your truck. And yes fixing oil leaks is common work for these engines. Some repairs are successful and some are not. Some repairs are done correctly and some are not. Also just because a repair is done correctly doesn't mean your engine won't develop a leak in the future. Just as a reminder these engines have a bad reputation for oil leaks that no preventative maintenance can help.

Is that a hint of sarcasm cheezit????? BTW the excursion is running great thanks
if they are pulling the cab you shouldhave ARP Headstuds installed. It is the perfect time and it helps to bullet proof the 6.0L I had a completeoverhaul to includenew heads and ARP Studs donelast fall and so far not any issues have come about.
Cheezit, I noticed your credentials, is it easier for the dealership to pull the cab or more profitable, or both?

To back up what Cheezit says, Ford still does not condone us pulling the cabs on a 6.0. For some of us, (me included) its just easier to pull the cab. To pull the 6.0 according to Ford, there is an adapter to use with the cherry picker (we dont have it).
