Tonight while towing my boat home from storage approx. 4000lbs I got the blinking tow/hall light and two transmission codes;
P0730 Incorrect gear ratio
P2704 Transmission Friction Element E Apply time Range/Performance.
Was doing about 40 mph in tow haul when I crested a hill heading down truck downshifted, started to gain a little speed, lightly applied brake and truck then down shifted again around or just under 40 mph with rpm’s 2,500 range, guessing in to 3rd gear. held steady rpms then rpms dropped to idle and seemed like truck free wheeled then it re-engaged rpms shot back to 2,500 range. at this time at bottom of hill, started to accelerate and truck would not shift out of that gear, let off and coasted till rpms lowered, accelerated aging and still would not up-shift, pushed button to turn tow/hall off it then up-shifted but light started flashing, went the 2 blocks home and just pulled these 2 codes. It is a new transmission with close to 8k on it, never did this before with old programing, Before tuning I did have an excavator on trailer weighing out around 11k with trailer and no issues. Tranny Temp 150*-160*
I installed transmission back in Feb. Of this year, ford reman with new torque converter and cooler. This is the second time it has happened, is did same Thing about same speed and gear with my camper comming down a hill memorial day weekend. It has just started this since I did power hungry performance's ecm/tcm roll back. Before that I towed my trailer with cat execavator with a total around 12k down hill while the tranny down-shifted to help slow down, with no problem, think it is the older flash that is doing it, what is the E pack?
