Hi All, I have an '89 150 Lariet with 5.0 engine and auto tranny with OD. I'm going to be pulling a trailer and was doing some research on the truck. I found that there were some options available when the truck was new, specifically super cooling and the handling package.
As near as I can tell, the super cooling option was a 2 core rad instead of the 1 core I had. (I upgraded to a 2 core)
However, I really can't get any info on the handling package other than it did include heavy duty shocks. Anyone have any additional info on either one of these options?
You might consider some over-load springs for the rear. I have a '93 F-150 2wd with the 5L/E4OD. My truck has the handling package (which was part of the trailer package) and so was super engine cooling. Over-loads are cheaper now, and really great for handling and weight distribution. These are a MUST for towing trailers with 1/2 ton F-150s.
I personally think every one of these trucks should have came with trailer package, regardless if you tow or not. Since you have a majority of the package, why not add to it with trailer package?
The only thing you'd apparently be missing is the wiring harness and H/D flasher and possibly the H/D battery.
Since your truck is an '89 you most likely would have a heavier battery than the stock 600CCA. If you plan to tow, the H/D flasher is a must.
Ford didn't offer a factory tow receiver hitch than the regular <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/"><a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">bumper</a></a> ball. I STRONGLY advise to tow with a receiver hitch instead of the <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/"><a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">bumper</a></a>.

A 2-core radiator on a V-8 is light-duty. You can get a 3- or 4-core.
To add quad front shocks, you have to cut the rivets that hold your shock/spring towers on the frame & bolt on the quad type. You also have to dismantle the front suspension to add the lower quad shock brackets. I've done it.
