random death wobble
I'm having an issue with a steering wobble that only happens when it feels like it.
The right hub/bearings had been replaced about 1 1/2 yr ago along with ball joints and stabilizer. The steering started feeling a little 'off' this spring and I noticed a slight loosness/ tug / wobble in the steering after turning sometimes. The locking hubs were not releasing and the left hub/bearing was bad, all have been replaced.
It seemed somewhat fine for awhile but after making a turn and straightening out, the truck went into a death wobble pulling the steering back and forth/left to right quite abit. I had trouble keeping it in a lane. We found the tie rod at the steering arm had a little play so we replaced it but it still doesn't feel like it should. Today again it felt real loose but it only wandered slightly for a few seconds this time.
I don't want to pull the trailer until I figure out what's going on.
The play in the wheel goes from about 11:30 - 12:30, steering box appears tight and there's no play that I can find anywhere now. I researched here and one similar problem ended up being a u joint so I'll check into that next but my question is would a bad steering box also cause similar problems or would that be a more constant problem?
Sorry for being so long winded, thanks.
