Hello All,
Relatively new to this site, so I don't know if this horse has been beat to death. I'm currently performing a ground up restoration on a 1964 F100 flareside. I've become OCD about putting it back the way it came from the factory and want to replicate as many of the chassis and under hood marks as possible. Does anyone know where I can find this info or a set of pics from someone that has already done this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hello nukeman got nukes, haha. Hey I got a 64 f100 also everything original and everything works it has a 292 with a 4 on the floor. The best I can suggest is to take a lot of pictures you can store on your computer for use as references. Much succes with your slick see ya.
The problem is I bought the truck untouched and all original. The paint and everything else was faded, but in retrospect, I should have left it alone. One weekend the wife was out of town and I decided to clean the engine bay. Once clean I decided to take the cover off the voltage regulator, clean off the rust and respray it....that's when my troubles began! Once the voltage regulator was freshly painted everything else looked like crap and before the wife returned on Monday I had the truck almost completely dismantled. I didn't mean to, it just happened. That was three years ago and I just got the body panels back from the paint shop. Now I'm reassembling it. All the original markings I SHOULD have taken pictures off are long gone.
welcome to the gang, I've got a 66 250 flare\sd , currently not able to upload pic's but email me and I'll send you my factory markings gayle.sutton@am.jll.com
The markings vary from truck to truck, vary from one assembly plant to another. Some assembly line workers used blue pens, some used yellow pens, or whatever was handy.
So, what may be marked on one truck will prolly be different from another. This is why...when dis-assembling, photos and videos should be taken.
The alternator regulator cover was painted black originally (1963/72), had an Auto-Lite decal on it.
The decal has been reproduced, is available from dearbornclassics.com.
1964: The oil filter is red (1965/72 is gold), also had a Auto-Lite decal on it, which has also been reproduced.
Dearborn sells car parts, but the cars used the same regulator, oil filter as the trucks.
My 66 is completely original, paint and all.....even has the original seat cover under the vinyl cover that's on the seat now. I'm the second owner and it only has 59K miles so it hasn't been molested at all.
As NumberDummy said, I'm sure there's a lot of variation from year to year and from truck to truck, but here's some markings on my firewall if that helps.
Thank-you. That was a big help. I realize every vehicle has diff markings, I guess I should have worded it differently; I want to approximate typical factory markings. Thanks again for the pic
My 65 had two markings on it. One just right of the master cylinder and it is a three digit number like the one above. There was a second marking on my radiator support which I didn't see until I took the front apart and started to prep it for new paint. That is the photo below - T2201 in white markal.
Perfect! All of you have been a large help! I have really been OCD about making this truck as perfect as I can (perfect by Ford standards!) I will try to get some pics up of before and after. Thanks again to everyone. Dan
To add to this list; where restoring a fellow members 62 4x4; its has identical markings located on the cowl area near the passenger side hinge in black marker like the one (Shortwide) posted and the same number on the back of the cab below the window between the smooth protion and slighly into the vertical vented section on the cab panel (Drivers side rearof cab). The numbers are hand written (134); I would guess there a paintis finish & painted too remark this two areas.
Have you found a buck tag? On your truck anywhere; that might help someone here ID your specific number code neeeded.

My 5-digit number is in the same location on the firewall. The Dallas assembly plant on East Grand made it simple to guess, since the number is the last 5 of the VIN.
Those three digits may be the last 3 of your VIN if you check.
