F600 wheels

Does anyone know if the tubeless rims from a '59 F600 will fit on a '63 N600 which has the hub piloted split rims? Both are 6 lug.

Thanks.

The bolt pattern is the same, 6 x 8.75", but a hub piloted mount will generally require a change of studs to allow use of the stud piloted wheels. I say "generally" because I've had comments from Studebaker guys on their site saying that the trucks they've done this on didn't require the stud change. I'll use the below diagrams to explain things.

You'll see in the top diagram, which is the stud piloted Budd mount, that the studs are fully threaded to the hub. This allows the inner cap nut of the Budd system to fully seat. On the second diagram, the Motor Wheel Corporation hub piloted design, the stud is not fully threaded to the hub. The hub piloted system is a single nut design not requiring the stud be fully threaded. Trying to use the inner Budd nut on the hub piloted stud causes the inner wheel to not seat against the hub.

The other issue is the center hole sizes. Generally, but not always, the stud piloted center hole will be bigger than the hub piloted which means this is no issue. If the hole of the stud piloted is smaller you'd have to trim to fit.

Below is an old FTE thread where this has been discussed. Stu
