Hey fellas, I'm Ryan. Going to look at what will hopefully be my first ever Ford truck. I have owned many other cars/trucks, this will make my th in my 10 years of driving. I have had a 1955 Chevy Apache, a 2002 S-10 (bagged and dragged) 2001 blazer, 1995 Suburban 6.5 Diesel 4x4 2500, 1996 volvo wagon (lol first car), 1994 Honda Del Sol (B18 swap), and a 2010 Chevy Cobalt SS. The truck I am looking at getting is a 1959 F100. It has a 223 I-6 and a 4 speed manual. Engine rebuilt 4k miles ago, new generator, new electric ignition, new tires, battery, new starter, new exhaust. Everything is either new old stock or a rebuilt replacement (or so I'm told). Here is a link for it. I'm going to check it out tomorrow more closely and to take her for a spin.
Welcome aboard Ryan.
Wow, it`s very nice. I`d certainly give it a close up inspection.
Oh I definitely plan to. I randomly came across it today after I got home from dropping of the Suburban to its new owner. The guy was really cool and has all the paperwork apparently so I'm going to take all that I have learned from my other trucks and stuff and go over it with a fine tooth comb.
If I get it... plans are: lower it (not dragging, but something tasteful), tint it, fix any rust, new paint (return it to original, some decent wheels, find and replace the current interior with original interior. Maybe try and find a tasteful bed cover. Ohh also almost forgot... gotta find a new driver's side window, since the original one has a crack. The guy I'm buying it from is the SECOND owner, which to me is quite valuable since the first guy took great care of it before he sold it to the current owner 7 years ago. The only thing he did was new paint and engine rebuild and replacing of the parts listed in the previous post.
Looks nice! Price on the high side but not bad if it's as described. Take a magnet along to check for bondo!
Everything seems to be more expensive out here. That's why I usually buy from ebay auctions. I just happen to come across this one on craigslist. There are other guys selling ones that aren't this good around here for another $1500 or so. I'm going to go look at her right now. Got a magnet and a creeper (read skateboard lol) in my car ready to inspect the body and under side of things. I'm kind of nervous about the frame since it has never been recoated as far as I know. Only one way to find out. I hope all the excitement for me right now isn't totally wasted on some bad rust or something on the frame or body mounts. I would like to drive it as is for a bit, just a weekend kind of thing, to the store, gym, beach to surf and stuff like that. Then I'll figure out the original color and have it done up real nice.
You're right in the general sense if you're talking about the cost of living, fuel, etc. BUT just about every one of us on this board will admit that the prices of these old trucks are a lot cheaper in the west as compared to the east. That truck could easily be 2000 dollars more in the rust belt of the east.

Yea I usually try and get stuff from AZ or NM. My 1955 chevy was a AZ original truck... not a spot of rust. The 1959 I just looked at isn't bad at all considering other ones that people want another $1000 for or more. It has some rust on the lower driver's side cab pan in the very back, in the front of the bed floor. Also a spot nest to the door on the floor of the cab on both sides. I would say... maybe 500 to fix it all and then I'll send it to paint. Man the thing is clean in general for a 60 year old truck. The crap that I have been sifting through to find something that at least has an intact floorpan is ridiculous. This is a good starting point for a good project with me and my dad.
I have a walk around video I did just to give you an idea. I don't think the sound is too good but you can see the small areas of rust. I wanted a 1955 step side but the only one i found was a total bucket for 5500 and I want to at least have something that runs so I can enjoy it on the weekends.
Congratulations. I think you did okay. Sure the cab corner is bad, but it can be fixed someday. I didn't think things like that happened in sunny california. If that truck was mine, I'd check the brakes and the engine, put gas in it and drive it for at least a year before I did anything drastic. Like we always say, it WILL talk to you and let you know what it needs. So what if it's not Barret Jackson caliber. It's a nice old truck. Other than the cleanliness under the hood, one of my favorite parts of that truck is the inside of the bed. You can tell that somebody actually used it as a truck and enjoyed it.

Yea I know... I have an ear to ear grin right now. The same feeling I had when I bout my old chevy. I actually drove it today. The guy left the keys with a neighbor and said just drive it and let me know. The brakes are well... um drums all around and they sure don't stop like the brambos on my car, nor does it shift like my car... but it feels so damn good to be in something that you drive and not something that a computer drives. That trans is going to take some getting used to again. As far as the rust goes... I live a mile from the beach... the truck, up until today, lived about a mile from the beach. so after 52 years you gotta expect a little rust at least.
So after being able to drive it around, over to my dad's to surprise him with it, I got to nit pick a little bit. The clutch needs to be adjusted a little bit. It isn't fully disengaging, which isn't a big deal. The carb also needs to be adjusted since it idles a little low. Other then that its all good. I just need to get used to rowing an oar through a big *** 4 speed again. I missed third a couple times lol... Haven't done that in years.
