I am with Mark. You need too have your Fuel Injector Control Module (FICM) tested. You shouldnt even need Glowplugs in "Africa"! Maybe have your HPOP checked out too, as it sounds like your injectors are not firing right (stiction).
Thanks guys.. this place i linked in previous post will check this out also.. I let you know tomorrow
I had the same issue with my truck. Would not start inmorning unless it was plugged in. Once it was started it was anemic until it warmed up. It only was getting down to the low 50's at night. Replaced FICM with a rebuilt one that was bumped up from 48 volts to 58 volts and truck started right up and ran like a bat out of hell. Ran itall winter and never had a problem with it. Even if it got below 20 degrees at night, i did not have to plug it in.

Look at Swamp's Diesel, I put on of their's on my truck. Lots of other places sell/rebuild them. Use search function, ppl have had lots of luck with others. Make sure your batteries are good. Have you had your hpos pressure checked? Nosense in throwing $350-$1,000 in parts at it if it wont fix it! Have You checked your FICM volts? It was designed too be at 48volts? Check the tech section for procedures. It can be very expensive throwing parts at your truck too "see" if it gets fixed! You really should have it all checked out, if you feel you cant do it. (Sorry if that offended you, but I think in your case it should have a couple checks done by a FORD Diesel Mechanic) It would prob save you some money in the long run. Scangauges can monitor FICM volts, I think!
how would your ficm cause it to run bad when cold but run great after warm up? my 03as done this since 84,000 And I have tried everthing you can pour in one. cheezit said in here one time that was bad injector or injectors or ones fixing to bad.

the solder joints crack in the ficm and dont get good contact when cold but when it warms up everything expands and your ficm voltage comes back and truck runs better
other things also can cause rough run when cold
its just one thing to check
also does your oil smell like diesel watch it close to see if your making oil
my injector o-rings used to leak fuel untill it got warm and they sealed up it ran bad missing cylinders wouldnt shift right and so on

If the FICM voltage is dropping out the injectors won't fire correctly. It should be 45+ volts ALWAYS, even when cranking. 48v is actually the correct voltage.
