The only difference when you step on the brake versus using the hazards or turn signals is that power is sent up to the third brake light only when pressing the brake pedal.
It is pretty much a process of elimination. You already know it has to do with the brake light circuit. My advice is to disconnect 1 item at a time and check to see if it pops the fuse while that item is disconnected then reconnect the item and go to another item in the circuit if all the items checkout and it still pops fuses the culprit is the brake switch.
Okay, so I've done a little more diagnosing. I disconnected all the lamps on the brake circuit, L & R and 3rd... and the fuse still pops. So I know those are okay. Brake light switch on the pedal the likely culprit?
Where you able to get the remote start system disconnected from the brake circuit? Because at this point its either that or the switch from what you are telling us. And switches do fail.
FYI, the switched wire off the brake switch runs up the steering column and to the multifunction switch. So there could also be a chaffed wire in there or the MF switch could be internally shorting.
Okay, so the plot has thickened. I did locate and disconnect the remote start system and replace the #2 fuse yet again. And lo and behold when I depressed the brake pedal, the fuse did not pop! I reconnected the remote start and depressed the brake again and still the fuse has not popped. So that makes me scratch my head some... I did notice some bare not connected wires coming out of the wiring harness for the remote start module which also was curious. I assume they were not needed for my application, but to leave them bare and exposed points me towards a shoddy install.
because it was put on by the dealer, Your remote start unit might have options and features that don't apply to your vehicle, although they still should have been at least cut clean and taped or had a butt connecter crimped on to make sure they didn't cause a short
tape up the bare wires and call it done until another fuse blows.
