36" tires on a 2X how high do you have to lift it

I am building a 75 F350 2 wheel drive, and I am wondering what it takes to run 36" tires, how much do you have to raise it to clear larger tires, any input would be great.
Thanks.

assuming you want to keep stock fenders I'd say 4". Below is a pic of my '74 F-100 with a 4" lift and 35x12.5r15 BFG's.

Now if you are open to fiberglass fenders or hacking away at the stock sheet metal with a sawzall or the like, then you could get away with less lift.

Don't mind the 80's bed - it's getting skinned and fiberglass bedsides (dentside of course) will go on it at some point soon.

I dont know yet, I like the 15" lots of tire look, I have 16.5" but wont spend money on that size tire as they are almost obsolete, so 16" will most likly be it. But right now, I am selecting my rear end gears, if I can easily fit 36" tires I will go with 4.10s. (I think)
Thanks, any thoughts on gear choice, 460/auto, street use, I have 3.73 and 4.10 to choose from (I know not much difference, only about 250-300 rpm)

What tire comes common in a 36"???

The front tires in the pic above are 35x12.5r15 but the rears are the 315/75r16's I'm switching to (swapping 8 lug stuff on the truck so I can share axles/spares, etc. with my crew cab).

The 315/75r16 is a 35" tire but seems to be a bit more expensive than a tire for a 15" rim. I haven't looked at pricing on 17" rims but I'm thinking a 305/75r17 or 305/75r17 would be about the same as a tire for a 16" rim.

Either way I think you're smart not messing with the 16.5" rims.

If you want to go 17's on the truck have a look at H2 take off's. The center may have to be bored/routed a bit to fit over your rear hubs but the wheels are strong, cheap and pretty light. I've got a set of 5 around as spares for my 2 trucks.

Agreed with the above, 4" lift should do it. I think you'll find much more tire selection available in a 35" than 36". I would go with the 4.10 gears. 35" tires + 4.10 gears almost exactly equals 3.73s and stock tires. Gear Ratio Calculator There's a calculator if you wanna check.

You can get 36 or inch tires for the 16.5 inch rim for $100 a piece. And they can be shiped

If you go with only a 4" lift you'll be fine on the straights, but if you do any off roading and have to make tight turns, the tires will rub on the inner fender and you'll lose turning radius. I would do a 6" suspension, 4" body is the cheap way out, but then there is the tire rub to worry about

my 2X with 4-5" of lift and 35's do not rub at all, even offroad. Because of my wheel offset, I do rub the radius arms when turning tight. I'm runnig stock F250/F350 alcoa's from a 95-ish. A 6" suspension and 4" body lift is HUGE, you'd probly clear 38's!
I'm planning on running a dana 60 w/ 4:10's. Right now I have my stock dana 61 w/ 3:07's. Bithchn' for the freeway, but crappy off the line.

I have run 42s under a 4" lift on a 4x4 F350 and grant 4x4 sits naturally much higher. And yes that is staright mud drags with tires of the size. But the other fuys in town have a couple 2wds and fit 33 with out any rub what so ever, I would say comfotably and to keep it looking as if the 35s fill your wheel wells. 4" is going to be a good choice, I have seen alot of variations of the body/susp combo and it actually gives me chills thinking about it at all. Luck to you and when all ready to do her up post up those pictures.
