After doing a little bit of thinking over the weekend, I am left with a conundrum...
I have a 1977 F100 shortbed single cab 4x4. I've had it for a few years now and the cab is so rusty that the roof would probably break off if it catches a gust of wind in the wrong direction.
I know a guy who can get me a supercab shell in reasonable condition, which is great because they never actually sold the supercabs here down under.
What I was thinking, is if I was to buy a bare longbed 4x4 frame, would that fit the new supercab and my old 6ft styleside bed?
I remember a few people doing this conversion. If my memory serves me right, from the firewall of the supercab ahead is all good. The only thing with the cab is the rear mounts which shouldn`t be too hard. The biggest thing is that to get the rear axle to center in the beds rear wheelwell you have to either move it 5 in forwards or back I dont remember, or cut 5 in. of area out of the bed and then cut a little off the end of the frame? Like I said this is only what I remember but hope it helps.
I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a supercab shortbox for that era.

Negative, this combination was made, in the F100/150 and F250 models, 2wd only.
Here's a complete wheelbase list for this style of trucks F100/350:
117 = standard cab, short bed
133 = standard cab, long bed
137 = standard cab, F350 cab-and-chassis (e.g., 9' stake bed) 139 = super cab, short bed
140 = standard cab, long bed, F350 (Super) Camper/Trailer Special, fleetside bed w/ spare tire on right side
150 = crew cab, short bed
155 = super cab, long bed
161 = standard cab, F350 cab-and-chassis (e.g., 12' stake bed)
167 = crew cab, long bed, F350 2wd only
The short bed is about 6.5' and the long bed is 8'.
thank you both kindly for the replies.
Jim, do you have the wheelbase figure for the supercab shortbox?
I see 'DL1221' found the complete list i was unable to find. I thought i could remember seeing them ,but never wanted to say they were made with out the numbers. So you are on your way now,good luck. JIM
Here's a picture of an original lwb truck with a supercab cab and a modified shortbed:
So I guess a supercab cab on a lwb frame would work (may require modification) but you can't put a regular shortbed on it without shortening it.
